Photographer's Note

Another religious artwork from Aya Sophya (Hagia Sophia) in Istanbul. The entire piece is constructed from individual tiles like a giant jigsaw puzzle. Depicted here are 2 of the 3 wise men from the east. This is the last view of the museum before you exit into the square. Most of this Byzantine art is around 600 years old.

Edit: March 27. Found this:

"Emperor Constantine I (at right) presents a representation of the city of Constantinople as tribute to an enthroned Mary and Christ Child in this church mosaic. St Sophia, c. 1000"
