Photographer’s Note

Apparently, the world is going to end on December 21st, 2012. Yes, you read correctly, in some way, shape or form, the Earth (or at least a large portion of humans on the planet) will cease to exist. Stop planning your careers, don't bother buying a house, and be sure to spend the last years of your life doing something you always wanted to do but never had the time. Now you have the time, four years of time, to enjoy yourselves before... the end.

So what is all this crazy talk? We've all heard these doomsday predictions before, we're still here, and the planet is still here, why is 2012 so important? Well, the Mayan calendar stops at the end of the year 2012, churning up all sorts of religious, scientific, astrological and historic reasons why this calendar foretells the end of life as we know it. The Mayan Prophecy is gaining strength and appears to be worrying people in all areas of society. Forget Nostradamus, forget the Y2K bug, forget the credit crunch, this event is predicted to be huge and many wholeheartedly believe this is going to happen for real...

Yes, yes Korkut, we all know about the doomsday...you don't need to remind us ;-). Gerald Celente who predicted the 1987 stock market crash and the fall of the
Soviet Union is now forecasting revolution in America, food riots and tax rebellions. He says that by 2012 America will become an undeveloped nation,that there will be a revolution marked by food riots, squatter rebellions,tax revolts and job marches, and that holidays will be more about obtaining
food, not gifts. Has he timed his 'prophecy' with the Mayan calender? Maybe....
About the image...a fantastic one especially with the glitter on the water, the dark PP work in deep sepia tones & the looming clouds. The boat is fantastic in the otherwise apocalyptic image. You remind me of Apocalypto my friend with this fantastic image!

Hiç "doomsday" beklemeye gerek yok aslında. İnsanlar o günü kendileri yaratıyorlar. Çevre kirliliği, doğanın tahrip edilmesi, gıdalardaki zehirler, nükleer silahlanma, vs hepsi aslında küçük çapta birer felaket aslında. Fotoğraf da bu başlığa ve yazının içeriğine çok uyumlu olmuş. Sahi burası 99 depreminde ortasından ateş çıktığı söylenen İzmit Körfezi değil mi ? Burası da bir zamanlar ülkemizin kağıdını üreten, bacası tüten bir fabrika değil miydi? OK, so up to the last day I will enjoy life - among other things by looking at good photography like this one.
And, by the way, the 2012 thing is just a calculation mistake...so please do not stop planting trees. The Mayans just wanted to scare us westerners for destroying their culture! It is just a big practical mayan joke!

as to the end of the world sounds quite peculiar but you never know...nevertheless, for all those who believe in it i think that four years are not enough to live a whole life...

very dramatic scene. The heavy and cloudy sky has its part on that for sure. Nice to see the fishermen in the middle...but it seems there is a light that never goes out :)) Very good one!

Very nice and stylized photo, the colours are great as is the siluhete of the lonely boatman fightning against the apocalypse.
2012 sucks as I was planning on retiring only a couple of years later, bad timing all over again !!

Manyak mısın Korkut ya; ne doomsday'i, şurada tüm hayatımı mayısa göre planlayıp ayarlamışım. Sen gelmişsin 2012'de bu sefer kıyamet hakketten kopacak diyorsun.
Mis gibi fotoğraf koymuşsun, sudaki ışıltılar, karanlık&aydınlık bulutlar arasında yumuşak geçişler, botta bir kaç arkadaş manzarası... Ne güzel işte...

Boy! Thank you very alerting me! You gave me an excellent excuse to give up working and thinking about doing something more interesting.
If it wasn't for the note, I wouldn't associate this fabulous image with the end of the world, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a very appropriate image to evoke the doomsday. I am not a religious person, but there is something powerfully mystical about this photo, like God is about to reveal a great secret to the persons in the boat. Fantastic light and compo!

Beautiful brooding b&w composition that goes so well with the gloomy predictions.
Love the glimmering sea a rich texture to the dramatic sky.
Recently we had an ice storm that took out power for 1.2 million people and my neighbor had his generator that he purchased for Y2K.
It was 9 years old and still in its original box.

Central Park, Hyde Park'ta konuşan, New York, Londra sokaklarını arşınlayan felaket tellalları, Kıyamet Günü çığırtkanlarının söylediklerinden ne farkı var şimdi bu notun desem bana kızar mısın?

Kaynak gösterdiğin sitede bu yazının aslı onaltı paragraf. İlk iki paragrafı almışsın, üstelik son cümleyi de dışarıda bırakarak. Bu yazının tümünü okudun mu allasen? Bırak tümünü, başlığını gördün mü? O bile yazı hakkında bir fikir veriyor aslında:"No Doomsday in 2012". Bunları söylemekten kastım parmak hesabı yapmak değil tabii ki! Biraz zaman ayırıp okusaydın keşke diyorum. O ilk iki paragraf bu kehanete inananların görüşlerini aktarmak için alınmış oraya, takiben şöyle deniliyor: “For all those 2012 Mayan Prophecy believers out there, I have bad news. About the photo, I have to say that transfers the atmosphere of the note.
The frame including the boat with people and the colour is ideal for the theme!

yeah, right... remember how people were stocking away food-stuffs in preparation for the year-2000 bug to paralize the life as we know it? ;)) i think, according to nostradamus & others like him we have survived at least a couple dozen 'doomsday' dates in the last 10 years or so. for some reason, i have a feeling, the same applies to the 2012 prophecy.

i like the photo though; especially the contrast between the smooth drama in the sky and the dribbled silvery reflections in the water.

Dramatic, scary, aesthetic photo. Perfect vertical format, and I even like the dark sepia nuance. As far as doomsday is concerned, last time I had a friend of a friend telling me to move to Alberta because of Planet X, some celestial body beyond Pluto, would come so close to Earth that it would cause all kinds of disaster scenes, particluarly if you live close to the coasts. I guess that was to happen 2006. Anyway, I think the greatest danger to Earth is from its most invasive inhabitants - homo sapiens - so, in that sense, the doom scenario is not that far fetched.
