Back from Turkey after a hectic yet fantastic holiday....
Our days in Istanbul surely wouldn't have been the same, without the company of our friend Deniz, a wonderful person who knows more about Istanbul than many guides, and who spared all his precious time to be with us at all hours...odd and even. This enthusiasm was contagious! We cannot thank you enough Deniz! We all miss you!
The cascading domes and its slender minarets of the Sultanahmet Mosque (better known as the "Blue Mosque") dominate the skyline of Istanbul. In the 17th century, Sultan Ahmet I wished to build an Islamic place of worship that would be even better than the Hagia Sophia, and the mosque named for him is the result. The two great architectural achievements now stand next to each other in Istanbul's main square, and it is up to visitors to decide which is more impressive.
The Blue Mosque was designed by architect Mehmet Aga. It was commissioned by Sultan Ahmet I when he was only 19 years old. Construction work which began in 1609, took seven years.
It was during my first Blue hour in Turkey that I took this picture of the Blue Mosque

Beautiful shot; blueness in the background and the lighter blue on the mosque are very attractive. Nice POV. tfs.

Une très belle photo nocturne de cette mosquée aux couleurs multiples et variées.
Bravo et bonne journée.

Looks Disneyesque... with one notable exception. This is authentic, and therefore much better! Wonderful colors and a superb blue hour shot with excellent use of the wide angled lens to exaggerate perspective. Nice framing with the fg arch. Tfs!

Happy to see photos of Turkey from you, which means you finally went back to your routines after a two weeks of "heavy travelling". You will be a good ambassador of Turkish people and our cultural heritage, i am sure.
I was in awe to hear your decision for going there early in the morning while thousands of tourists were still asleep (but this is done in the blue hour, later some time, i guess). Visiting there so early is a hint about the passion of photography in you. Yet, i still think that such a passion of photograpy should have made you use a wider angle and a tripod for making this photo. I know you didn't have either of them, and you are not the "tripod type" just like me, but well, you are into honest critiquing, no?
Well, in my case, i went there with a tripod only once, maybe 7 years ago, and it was such a boring experience that i never did that again :))

Visit of Istanbul is not far from the top of my ranking list for next travel, and the blue mosque is really a place I would like to take photos.
Very interesting your choice of composition and the rendering of the colorful lightning with a clean blue ink sky as background.

Tu as trouvé un point de vue très original sur la très belle mosquée et de plus une heure du jour ou on ne la voit pas souvent. La gestion de la lumière et des couleurs est impeccable et l'ensemble est très symétrique.

Using the arch to frame the Mosque is a good idea. Using an ISO of 800 an a slow shutter speed is showing the details and colours of the Blue Mosque. It has also a sepcial effect on the colours. Have a nice day.

Wonderful capture!! Superb point of view to compose the scene and great colours and light management, really a master work!!

Ciao e buon fine settimana

An original composition of this much photographed and beautiful mosque Angshu. The colours on the mosque are very lovely and the inky blue sky like velvet. I look forward to seeing more of your Turkey shots... a fabulous country. Warm regards rosemary

The angle and symmetry really works for me, very little in life seems perfect but this shot is as near perfect for symmetry as possible that give it life and character. Here the lines, material and sharp edges combine to lead the eye deeper and deeper into the architectural beauty . . . intriguing. A wonderfully framed and finely detailed, the colour definition and clarity is impressive. I particularly like the complexity of design and the towering minarets which give the image a kick rendering to the technical precision of the striking shot. Excellent, calm peaceful image and a shot to be proud off. Congrats

Une vision très originale de cette célèbre mosquée à l'heure bleue. L'éclairage de plusieurs couleurs est étonnant et lui donne un aspect unique.

Splendid blue hour shot, well composed and attractively framed.
The different coloured illumination adds more tones and makes for a good result.
Best regards, Paul

Woow, wonderful view in blue hour. Only seven years to construct it?? Amazing. Fantastic shot, beautifully framed with the arch, splendid symmetry, superb colours.

Wonderful mosque in your capture.
Superb colors and sharp details.
All the best dear friend

I know for having stood there that it's not an easy place to photograph. I was there with a tripod and a wider lens..it works but you also get heavier distortions... I like your choice of including the arch in the foreground. It works for me. And the light is gorgeous!

Hello dear Angshuman,
Unfortunately we couldn't meet eachother when you had been in Turkey, but now I'll trace your postings to TE from İstanbul !
This one is quite well; as you have done it at blue hour and from a perfect pov. Sultanahmet, or the Blue Mosque is really a "gem" in İstanbul; of course this area with it's differnet monuments from antique Egypt through Roman, Hellenistic, Byzantine at lastly Ottoman periods is an area where you can spent days and days..
You have added also some very good informations to your entry which makes it a perfect TE job !
TFS and have a nice week

very nice composition here, good idea. I like the colorful details of architecture. Nice view of famous Mosque in Istanbul. Photo I like.
have a nice day.
Urs (14082) 2013-06-10 4:45
Congrats that is one of the very very best blue hour shots I have seen ever, the Blue mosque during blue hour, nothing could be done better. The vivid colour tones, the high sharpness and the clarity of the shot are extraordinary. Well done
Yes the Wat in Vientiane was restored completely about 100 years ago. The workmanship was o.k. but the buildings already show again age.

Namaste, my friend Angshuman,
wonderful! This low-angle shot on the Sultanahmet Mosque at the blue hour offers us all its gorgeous beauty, with a great sharpness.
The lighting of its domes and minarets enhances the splendour of this awesome architecture.
Thanks for this good photo which evokes me a nice recollections, and inspires me for my second trip to Istanbul in next September.

I see you have been travelling. Congrats. I have not yet a chance to go to Turkey. One of these days. I will. For now, I'll be satisfied by enjoying your wonderful shots. This is a really good night shot, with nice wide angel view. You have place everything in a nice symetrical composition. Really good exposure for a rich color and lots of detials of the mosque.
Kielia (24077) 2013-06-13 2:47
excellent photo work, you have chosen an outstanding POV to capture this wonderful mosque against the blue sky. The contrast of the colors is amazing. The image looks like art work. A great idea and a successful execution! My compliments also for the nice notes!

Knowing that you had a wonderful trip to Turkey last May, I couldn't resist going onto your Turkish gallery, and I find this beautiful Blue Hour photo of the Blue Mosque !
Great composition, management of light, colours and sharpness, even handheld !
Thanks also for the interesting note and I am glad you were made so welcome by a friendly TE member.
Isn't the site just wonderful !
TFS and kind regards.

Not a new post but a very good one and your first Blue hour in Turkey
Impresive color contrast but more interesting is the perspective obtained by the wide angle lents
Creative natural frame
My congrats and TFS
