Balat is the traditional Jewish quarter in the Fatih district of Istanbul. It is located on the European side of Istanbul, in the old city on the historic peninsula, on the western bank of the Golden Horn.
The name Balat is probably derived from Greek palation (palace), from Latin palatium, after the nearby Palace of Blachernae.

I know this exact street very well, I walked up and down this one a few times.
Its easy to remember that large red building at the top!

Obozavam Balat i Fatih a tvoja fotka pokazuje zasto - prekrasna, obnovljena zgrada jarkih boja pored one u jadnom, rusevnom stanju... Zivot na ulici - mogu osjetiti slatke mirise iz neke pekare kao i one manje ugodne iz otvorenih kontejnera... Tako blizu sredistu, srcu grada, a opet tako daleko...
Ja bih mozda 'odrezala' pola tipa i klinca s lijeve strane - mislim da se ne bi puno izgubilo a fotka bi nekako bila zaokruženija cjelina...
