Photographer's Note

Since two days we have snow in İstanbul !
But in the Aisan part of İstanbul, where I'm living there is still not much photogenic wintery scenery to be photographed. Therefore back to my archive.
Here a wintery scene from İstanbul I made in the year 1964 !
One of the narrow streets of Karakoy. At that time there were some small shipyards (along Golden Horn), where they made small wooden boats. Form eighties onwards, all those shipyards are been removed and the coastline is been cleaned.
Scanned from 18 x 24 cm b&w print.

İki gündür İstanbul'a kat yağıyor, okullar tatil.
Ama benim bulunduğum Göztepe civarında, hala fotojenik bir kış manzarası oluşmadı. Onun için çare arşivime başvurmada.

Bu kare 1964 kış'ından.
Karaködeki ,Haliç boyunca uzanan daracık sokaklardan bir görüntü. O senelerde o civarda, küçük tekne yapım yerlerinde, sandal, taka, mavna benzeri deniz araçları üretilirdi. Bindokuzyüzseksenli yıllardan itibaren buralar yıkıldı ve geriye sadece bu resimler kaldı.
Bu kare de 18 x 24 siyah beyaz baskıdan tarandı.

Hello Mesut,
It's interestng for me to see Istanbul in snow. The skyline in the background shows the location, which otherwise could have been anywhere. This is a great document from the past and an environment that doesn't exist any longer. I don't know if this is the oldest photo you have shown here, but it beats my personal record by several months:-).

nice the snowy Wintry scenery from the oldies with everyting to covered with snows and some of them to are melted.Good the quality of the scan image with the light and the details to are excellent.

Tu as retrouvé un beau document dans tes archives. Cet hiver 64 était visiblement assez rude! Bon scan et noir et blanc de qualité.

Hello Mesut, a very beautiful picture from the 60´s so attractive decade to me. I remember scenes like this in my home country of Greece where I grew up and lived my childhood and enjoyed scenes like this in my neighborhood!Great panoramic view!
