Photographers Note
Like Caravaggio, Vermeer is one of my best loved painters, whom i believe his ideal of using people and light in art works impresses me deeply.
Of course the fire extinguisher, the beer board and other modern details are far away from Vermeer's world, but the cleaning lady and her garments, her gesture in front of the framed windows and most important of all, the light on her, reminded me Vermeer's works as soon as i saw this vision. Hope you like it too...

Vermeer indeed. Windows of his atelier. Delicate pinkish shape of young woman. And the subtle light - quite an amount of it. Delightful scene - as vermeerish as can be :)) with a slight touch of social-realism thanks to the fire extinguisher and other artefacts ;)))
Great.
Best wishes T.

Bonsoir, Deniz,
Bel hommage à travers cette prise de vue. Composition très réussie, et un bien joli clin d'oeil aux peintres anciens.
Evidemment, le modernimse s'inscrit normalement dans la création.

Hello, Deniz -
Vermeer, indeed! One wonders if she is really thinking deep thoughts; I have in mind someone I know of, a gym trainer, who has a PhD in radiation oncology - the point is, you never know.
I like the use of light and shadow here; the little bit on the fire extinguisher is a really nice touch. The lady herself is soft; looking at your exposure data, I must assume it was deliberate.
Nice capture of tricky light, and composition!
Regards,
Dan

beautiful use of light and colour. This images has a nice softness to it. The stained glass window is what really brings this picture out. Without I think the image wouldn't be as interesting. Well seen. Rgds, Leilani

(3402) 2008-01-24 15:47
That's freaking unbelievable. Uncanny. You used a very fast shutter, so it seems the softness must be a focus issue or some kind of digital smoothing. Either way, it works perfectly, because it gives it a kind of painterly quality. There's just one thing (aside from a pearl earring) that would make this really seem like a Vermeer, though. See my workshop. Great one, Deniz. -Hugh

Magnificent. I love Vermeer and this homage is a thing to be proud of. The array of colors from strong and vivid to the softest hue of the girls cloth, the magnificent light, the graphics of this...I agree a 150% with Bombilla's remark. This Sanralistanbul is a treasure of a place for a tresure of a photographer.

Merhaba Deniz,
I'm not that familiar with paintings in general and Vermeer in particular, but I believed Dutch masters were specialists in creating light from the darkness ? REading your note seems to confirm this as well as the fact her environment is way too modern, but it's a nice scene and the 3 colored glasses give it some special effect you'd probably not found in Vermeer's works, so... can it be you're even better ??? ;-)
Have a nice week end JY

Hi Deniz,
Vermeer was the specialist in light that was coming from the side (mostly from the left) which made his work very remarkable because he was an absolute master in these kind of drawings.
The hard light what is coming right through is is very well controlled by you although i wonder why you used 1.8 at 1/1600sec?
The red, blue and yellow glass remind me even more on Mondriaan than on Vermeer, but that aside ;-)
Nevertheless a fine controlled and balance picture...
Have a nice weekend, Henk

Hi Deniz,
This is a real thought to VERMEER..
He painted mostly domestic interior scenes...
His portrayal of the milkmaid at work has many a deep impact here with your image.... EXCELLENT WORK, DEAR FRIEND..
His main sense was the use of light, and its well imaged...
I admire this thought for the greatest painter..
All the best..

Hi Deniz,
I'm glad to discover your wonderful gallery, I like a lot the way you play with light. I suddenly add you to my favorites to do not lose your posts. I love Caravaggio and Vermeer too, you were right to recall this last one here, the girl seems to be dressed to pose for one of its paintings. The multicolor windows complete this little masterpiece.
Very well done! Keep posting!
