He Slept, Turkey Awoke
Istanbul Trip, Day 6, Scene 8
As I recount the scenes from my sixth day in Istanbul, I would be remiss if I did not include what we saw on TV that day. As we were walking around Emirgan Park peacefully, this was the scene less than 10 miles away as the crow flies.
The previous night, Berkin Elvan, who had been fighting for his life since June 16 2013, had passed away. His funeral was that afternoon. According to this TV station's estimates, around one million people showed up for the funeral.
Berkin Elvan was 14 years old when he was hit on the head by a tear-gas canister during the Gezi Incidents while he was out to buy bread for his family. We heard the story over and over: His mother was going to go out to buy bread but he stopped her, saying "Mother, you can't dodge the tear gas canisters if incidents flare up again, I can run fast."

Excellent note too.

You're capturing well this documentary scene through TV news, so it's interesting and impressive to see a riot scene in the citizens and a security force of these days. What the cause of dispute was set aside and the victim came out of is a sad story. Anyway, the wonderful glass articles and pottery are located in a line on the desk in front of TV.
