Photographer’s Note

(About the lucky, first born Zelal that you see here, there are 4 other photos and if you click on the next photo, you'll be guided to all of them and finally come back on this image)

This is the way children are put to sleep in that part of the world : not that time of the day, now just to play for a while, or to calm down Zelal, in this same room where they had breakfast, another day : her grandmother places a quilt on her feet and invites the little girl on this swinging cushion, and while swinging gently her feet for a long time constantly, she'll whisper to her tender words, or sing a lullaby, or tell her a little story : I've seen this in many homes, this is how many lucky babies or children (if there are not too many children at home) are rocked to sleep, with another blanket covering them at night.

More about the grandmother Cilek and how she bakes her "naan" (bread) in the traditional oven another day.

Here we see at the back the adjacent room, a rather formal sitting room with sofas on the sides and where dinner is sometimes served (always on the floor). FYI, I've added 2 outside views of the house in the workshop. Despite the rather surprising aspect of the house from the outside, this is not a poor family, as I have explained in the previous post.

(NB : ... in all those habitations, the beautiful, traditional carpets have been sold long ago and instead, large carpets weaved mechanically have appeared : standard sizes and designs, they are of course comfortable for the naked feet and are more easy to clean, but I always try to imagine how it looked like when the carpets woven by generations of women from the same family were adorning those houses...)
