Looking North, a photo from Erzurum, East Anatolia

Photographer's Note

Erzurum sits in a rift valley between 2 mountain ranges. The previous upload on February 27 was taken looking south towards Palandoken. This is taken looking north across the city towards the Black Sea, which is over the distant snowcapped peaks and 299 kilometres north by road, or 179 km as the crow flies. Shot through a locked window so some reflections are visible. Normally I would blur the sky but I lost my Gimp program when reformatting my laptop to be able to use Turkish systems. Will try and upload it again on my day off. The 2.8 version of Gimp doesn't do jpegs.

Bonjour Chris,

J'aime beaucoup ce tapis blanc qui recouvre le sol de la Turquie. On voit beaucoup de construction nouvelles qui se dresse autour du minaret. J'aime la texture et la netteté de l'ensemble.

Hi Chris,

The distance between the park and the mountains is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the city. The reflection of the light on the snow is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

I think I mentioned it to you before, but as a Canadian, for some reason when we think of Turkey we don't think about snow!
but obviously.....
and another interesting thing to point out is seeing a mosque in the snow...very strange for me and my experiences.
here we have a good overview of the city and how its laid out, as well as seeing the styles of architecture.

A beautiful wide angle shot. Lovely crisp powdery colours and definition. Your note made me smile: you lost your gimp hehehehe. I hope you find it :). But I'm curious, what does gimp do that PS doesn't?

Même à travers une vitre, la vue sur le paysage enneigé autour de la ville est très belle....même si les grues semblent ici pousser plus vite que les minarets -)On attend avec impatience les photos des montagnes proches que tu ne vas certainement pas manquer de partager avec nous.

That is a nice view, with snow as far as the eye can see!
The mosque attracts the eye well in the middle of all houses. Nice mountain backdrop there!
