Photographer's Note
One more photo from my journey all over Turkey in 1974. This is from the small town of Doğubeyazıt in the far east, near the Iranian border.
Naturally I don't remember taking this photo, but I assume that the boy in the background was anxious to be part of it. I guess I preferred a girl to play a leading role just for a change.
I have scanned this from a Kodachrome slide.

Hej Gert,
En helt oemotståndlig bild! Hennes ställning ger bra balans på hela bilden och han i bakgrunden bidrar också, på sitt sätt.

hi Gert
again, you know i really enjoy these photos of yours.
Funny that you mentioned the boy in the bg, because he seems so interested into whats going on - and i think you're right that he wants to be apart of the action :)
funny too that almost everything in the scene is yellow or beige, from the bread, to the clothes, to the architecture to the sandstone.
cool post for TE

Ciao Gert,
an exceptional model, the golden light was great and warm tones very nice, I really like the pose that has taken the child, a little awkward but nice, good framing and the use of DOF with the child behind that balances well the 'image, always great quality...is always a pleasure to look your old photo...
kind regards,
Valter

Hi Gert,
Great portrait of this girl looking towards the camera in a very intruiging way. The boy could also be her brother and he don't like his sister being photographed.

Such great and evocative detail here, Gert, from the looks on both of their faces to the worn clothing and shoes. The framing and DOF are both perfect, creating a clear path in the shot, and the color certainly gives it an 'old photo' feel. Beautiful moment captured... just imagine, these two are probably in their late forties or early fifties by now!

Hi dear Gert
Another marvelous shot you present!
I cannot believe this shot is taken 38 years before, so still vivid indeed. Greatly precious documentation.
I want to see her present face that has passed 38 years. Thanks for your sharing with finest work and have a good day!

Hello Gert,
Another fine testament to the longevity of Kodachrome slide film but an even greater testament to the skill of the young photographer - you have obviously taken care to use a wide aperture in this case to isolate your subject perfectly against a finely out of focus background.
As such, this little girl with her "net" bag full of loaves is perefctly represented in this picture, standing out proudly against the distant view - perhaps of some building process or a mason's yard - and taking pride of place before the boy who appears a little disgruntled and to be hurrying to get himself in the photograph. Curiously, it looks as though his mother has made his shirt from the same cloth as his sister's dress.
Beautiful colours, perfect exposure (Kodachrome, I seem to recall, had an exposure latitude of barely a stop in either direction) and excellent details and sharpness.
Excellent!
Kind Regards,
John.

Hi Gert. I love these scanned images of yours as they bring back to life the life that was. Superb light and warm colours- matched by the bread and the dress.I wonder what she was thinking as she looked at this Firangi taking her photo. Regards. Klaudio.

Gert,
Lovely shot. I like that this photo have many details and yet there is a very limited colour pallet from bread to clothes to the building structures. I like the secondary figure in the background completing the image.

Hi Gert
Imaginative and enjoyable shot! The facial features and the eyes are especially captivating as this eye-level shot really makes you love all her priceless expressions - the photogenic 'look' of the innocence and the amounts of delicious breads, a proud mother by now. Also a nice glimpse of the background characterised by the crumbled dusty street of real situation then, depicting the everyday lives of the ordinary people, an interesting facet of this exotic land. Your pp treatment and quality is fine, this is a marvellous capture of a quite an intelligent face. Thank for sharing.
Warm regards

Perhaps the warmth and the sharpness of the photograph can only be captured on a slide !! The Theme - did you have such a name for the picture in 1974 ? Today - the theme is striking and strong. The girl stands (with perhaps a shade of cynicism) with the bread and behind her are broken buildings ...ruins.. The road is dusty with the gravels and stones of destruction.
There is a young man in the background and his moods are quite apparent.
Bringing the bread home is hard work - even more so now than it was about 40 years ago.
Thanks for sharing.

Hello Gert,
like in one of your previous pictures, the unexpected guest star -in the background this time- enriches the composition and the story and becomes an attractive point of interest. He makes the composition more balanced, enhances our perception of depth and offers a sense of movement. Not that the little girl isn't enough. Her portrait in her every day environment while running a usual errand is wonderful, vivid and intriguing. Her direct, deep and bold glance is captivating, her elegant posture makes a great contrast with that of the boy but also invites him in the composition. The bold lighting and the uniformity of bright tones make a very strong visual impact and a long lasting impression. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
Ourania

Hello Gert,
this is a photo with great charm. The pretty girl is such a wonderful subject. I like very much your pov and that we can see all of her, including her shabby footwear. The girl is not only nice to look at but has a certain poise too (in contrast to the boy, who seems both ungainly and of roughly hewn features).Perfect dof and composition.Much to enjoy.

Hi Gert,
Classic daily life image, I was probably younger than her in 1974, or around the same age. To think she is now about 45 year old. Wonder what her life is like now.
Good scan and nice color and tone, but not overly saturated.

Hello Gert,
It's hard to believe that 38 years have elapsed since you took this excellent photo of the young girl bringing home the warm "francola". (There is the round ekmek, somewhat darker, and the baguette-inspired francola.) Ten years later, in 1984 I visited Dogu Beyazit, the first and last time in my life. I remember well the view of Mt. Agri (Ararat Dag) looming in the distance as a memorable site.
Superb job of scanning what I assume is a Kodachrome image.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hej Gert,
Fine scan from such a old slide. Seems Kodachrome 64 never goes out of time. It was my favourite slide film too and I still remember how exited I was to find the yellow bags returning by mail after a week or so.
Unbelievable today - to see the results from a journey maybe weeks after you took the shot! TFS.
Have a nice evening,

HI Gert,
Once again.. I love the tone.. really, the colour is far far rich than digital...A lovely photo..beautiful sky..wonderful color contrast(blue&warm clour of the girl's dress) wow.. 1974.. I can't imagine what she looks like now:-D..Strangly, I just realised that no body uses this kind of carrying bag anymore.. things disappeared without our notice..i've never been to Turkey, but I bought some this kind of bread in Romania once.. very nice:-D..A very good evening to you, Gert.

Hello Gert,
Even if this picture has been taken already 40 years ago, its visual impact has not lost an ounce and your shot still speaks to the beholder. Somehow an interesting little girl with a lot of expression. This picture reminded me my youth, where I had to buy bread too, mostly after school.
Kind regards
