At the crack of dawn, you can see dozens of hot air balloons filling the sky around Göreme.
But to be honest, their design are very dated and boring, and a lots of them are nothing else then huge billboards for the balloon companies, with cheap logos and email addresses...
From a promotional point of view for the Cappadocia region, I think that they would benefit to come up with imaginative and inspired balloons, as it would be much more enticing and picturesque.
This one is probably one the least worst...

Bravo et bon WE

A classical view with an original, different opinion.
About 6 years ago, the number of balloons were around 30 in Cappadocia, now it exceeds 130. The state finally decided to limit the number of balloons new companies can handle. But the competition is fierce, and the total number is actually too much for this limited area. That's why they compete on the basis of prices, and take adds -instead of being creative to offer differentiated products. But my experience was that they generally put their name on their balloons.

What a lovely "Kodak moment " !i particularly like the intersection of the widest point of the balloon as it rises with the cliff top on the upper third. The shade and variegated light from the sun behind clouds is also very effective.

balloons make such great subjects for photos, but when pitched against a stunning backdrop they are just amazing. This is one such shot, superbly executed and a spellbinding presentation. Love it!
Have a great weekend - best wishes Brian.

Bonjour Andre ,

Great shot of some nice contrasting colors and looks like u had a fun time snapping from high above ground and what a view! The baloon does more punch to the shot and standout so superbly in the rugged looking green environment. The early morning light and lovely shadows hitting at an angle add so much to the beauty with wonderful textures and shades and the sun has caught the baloon nicely. Excellent perspective, depth and dof. Wonderfully done although I do agree with your remarks. TFS

Hi Andre, Indeed they might be colourful and less boring. but it looks nice against the incredible landscape of cappadocia. And when someone do not like the view, after a short time they probably disappear. nice rock in foreground.
Have you tried the ride in balloon? it is possinble in bagan too but very expensive, so I didn't.

Maybe this captured one is really not special however as a part of your composition looks great! Like it a lot. Very interesting and well executed image. TFS.

I just love your Shakespearean double superlative - "least worst" in your note - Shakespeare, I think, was the very first writer to use that particular combination of words in "Julius Caesar" - "the most unkindest cut of all" - so you are in good company!
Despite what you say about the unimaginative designs of these balloons, this one really is quite striking and you have caught it perfectly in the frame against the distant mountains and above those rather phallic-looking pillars of rock in the valley floor. The vibrant colours of the balloon stand out well against the sky and the more sombre colours of the vegetation below.
As always, perfect exposure, lovely colours and exquisite sharpness.

this is a wonderful picture. you have composed this with the balloon perfectly placed in the frame and its colours contrast well with the natural stone colours of the landscape. excellent sharpness.

I'd love to fly in a balloon in that place!
Your picture is so beautiful and inviting... it makes more eager to one day making that dream of mine come true!
TFS - congrats,

Reading your note, i could not agree with you more, and I experience the same thing here locally.
Out in Langley, these Hot Air Balloons take off for sunset and sunrise, and i've always wanted to photograph them. Just one problem...like you mentioned - they're ugly balloons. They all have the some 1 style, red white and blue with huge huge advertising for RE-Max Realty company...i"m sure you've heard of them as you've lived in Canada.
At least with this one, it looks clean, no dirt stains or streaks (like our re-max ones) and the colors look vibrant, or maybe thats just the lighting.
You'd think with the blue and yellows this would be a Swedish Balloon company :)
Well, great on ya for getting a fine photo of it anyways, with an interesting backdrop of landscape to compliment the scene. Much better than anything i'd be able to capture out here.
