Photographers Note
East of Konya, there's really nothing interesting to see in the immense plateau typical of the region. A flat and straight road takes you to Karapinar, a small town. But near Karapinar, there's a surprise for photographers. After driving a few kilometers on a dirt road, the visitor suddenly finds himself surrounded by a lunar landscape, formed by an extinct volcano, and it's huge caldera transformed into a lake. There are a few lesser craters here and there, and it is not uncommom to see herds of sheep grazing on the slopes on the cone.
The place is visited by few, and one would certainly need a very wide angle or a panoramic if he is decided to include all the landscape. The light may also become a problem according to the weather anmd the hour.

Hi Izzet. Very interesting shot of this barren, yet diverse scenery. The tonal range and the color contrast between the hills and the deep tones of the water makes for a balanced and enjoyable viewing. Happy holidays and best wishes for 2007.

Salut Izzet,

Indeed, this quite a surprising landscape, Izzet! It seems one of those images taken from another planet. Your wide lens gave us an increadible perspective of the surrounding water. Great shot!
Friendly regards from my cats,

Merhaba Izzet.
Very nice capture. The light gives wonderful tones. The warm colours are everywhere and also the sky looks useful for this photo.
Thanks for share.

Interesting view of this lake/caldera. The shape of the hills and shoreline are very curvy and seductive. A nice touch is the cloud above the cone in the centre, which makes this appear as though it is coming from a volcano. Excellent!

Izzet: this is a really striking crater shot. Details are crisp and even the ripples on the waters are visible. Fine scan from the slide here as well. Your scanner? best, c

Hello Izzet - marvelleous landscape, reminiscent of the high plateau of Bolivia, that single cloud is perfectly positioned above the crater, I drove that same boring road, but unfortunalety it was raining, and we did't take the side road to the lake.
