The guarantee referred to in the title does not cover the photo itself, although I have done my best to make it sharp enough. But I am sure the bearded salesman did his best to convince every potential customer that they could not find a better and sharper knife than those he was selling.
I saw this gentleman in a crowd by Ulus Square in central Ankara. I was just about to approach him with a request for a portrait when someone asked to take a look at his knives. So instead of a portrait I took this picture from another angle and a bit further away.
When taking this photo I was standing almost at the same place where I took this one, just facing another direction.

Intressant bild av gatuhandel. Är det brödknivar det handlar om? Bilden i sig är ju perfekt skuren med en vass komposition. Man kan ju inte heller säga att bilden är överskärpt.

It's rather quite interesting colourful street shot and this elderly vendor, being the focus of interest with his shiny display of knives. A characterful man indeed, who takes no notice to the camera depicting the situation between seller and buyer. It's a frame filled image with excellent diagonal while the background offers the busy thoroughfare to catch the eyes as well, something which the viewer can get without too much thought. Fine daily street shot, Congrats.

I love it when we can look at a picture such as this and try to imagine what the dialogue must be between two people - in this case the seller and the customer.
Here we can see the seller holding his goods lovingly and, presumably, praising their quality. We can also see other knives sitting next to his case on the wall and we see the buyer reaching to open his satchel to fetch some money to hand over.
Like these top quality knives, your picture is indeed sharp but it's also well taken, well composed and has some fine colours. The background is a snapshot of daily life but it's not distracting from the two main subjects.

nice double meaning of the title, a picture full of details but all in the right place, excellent quality as always and a nice scene of life...

I like very much the perspective and composition of this picture and its absolute spontaneity and naturalness, like a scene our eye caught in a fleeting second while walking by. I like that none of the two men is aware of the lens and they are absorbed in the knives and their transaction while behind them we can observe a scene from daily life in a modern city. The seller makes a fascinating contrast in this scenery. Sharpness is perfect indeed:) Lighting and depth are great and the taxis brighten up the frame. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

Hi Gert, And i was thinking about the sharpness of a photo :). it is very sharp, like these knives. I like the big beard of this seller. You were lucky that this customer came, the photo is more interesting showing some action. yellow cabs like in NYC.

Hi Gert. I get the impression that one of them is a tourist. I bought two knives whilst in Japan and they are now indispensable in the kitchen. A nicely timed moment with both men's minds ticking, plus while waiting for a decision, we can admire the street scene. Best wishes. Klaudio.

Interesting to note the comparative dress of everyone in this shot, Gert; the knife seller is the only one here in non-'modern' clothing and style. That helps him to stand out in the frame, and his wares do the same. The knives themselves shine clearly in the light, and other colors here add vibrancy and life to the rest of the scene.

as i'm viewing this shot, i can't help but think about how this would all go down in the city of Vancouver!
Canadians as a whole are a very conservative group. I'm sure if a man was selling sharp knives on the side walk like this, somebody (not me) would call the police, and it would be taken care of. no kidding.
This man would be very interesting to speak with, did you ever get the chance?
a really cool street shot. I like it

Hello dear Gert,
Turkey, my homecountry is an amazing place where you can make real life experiments !
I do not think that anywhere in Europe you can find a knifesharpener seller at the centerplace of the city.
Very nice capture with good layout and nice vivid colors
TFS and best regards

Fine daily life in street with interesting shot, I like diagonal frame gave perspective and view BG!Great daily life scene, great 'low' POV, very good framing and composition! Excellent perspective! Great light management, excellent choice with great contrasts!

I like the title, excellently captured image. I bet that the knives are from China...:-D I hope the man on the right was not falling over... "run" away from the knives or the photographer?:-D
I prefer this way. I know it's polite to ask people to take photos...it's more 'real' without asking, only some people don't like it. I "heard" some photographers talked about image right the other day.. I only know that different country applies different laws, but it's like landmine, if you have more information, do drop some links, please.

Hello Gert. Here you show a beautiful and very vivid everyday scene. I can imagine the conversation well in my imagination. Such opportunities may be no photographer miss. Overall, a great shot.

Amazing title, good capture of a daily life scene on the streets of Ankara. Unfortunately, I have never been in the Turkish capital. Attractive background, bright colors.

the bearded gentleman certainly commands attention and with the knives close at hand there is a raw edge to this shot.
The busy daily life going on behind puts the whole scene in context.
Thoughtfully composed and nicely presented it`s a fine photograph.

I wonder whether he made the sale. A lovely snapshot of daily life that was well worth taking. Selling knives in the street is an unusual subject - I do like the little suitcase that acts as his 'shop'. Very well taken.
Kind Regards, Ann

an interesting reportage about the daily life in Ankara. Good captured scene. Well comment and photowork. I like it.
Have a nice WE.

Its sharp indeed !! Great one, Gert.
The sharpness is just not of the items being sold or the quality of the images in the photograph.
This is an ideal scene of an interaction between two gentlemen from sharply different backgrounds and culture. It is so very typical of Turkey !!
This photograph typifies the preservation of 'sharply' distict social and cultural identities.
Brilliant !! Thanks for sharing.

It is hard to get everything right when taking candid shot of people, no time to think of the proper setting. But you did a wonderful job in capturing this moment. Good documentation of the daily life of people. Good lighting and dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.
mirosu (15972) 2012-11-19 3:05
Clever choice. You never know what can happen when one has so many knives with him. Actually this is a very nice street snapshot will all content. The deep DOF allow following not only this buyer and seller but also street life behind. Very well seen and captured. Thanks. Have a great week.

En vacker inblick i Ankaras gator transaktioner.
Knivar intresserar mig också. Fokus och temat för bilden är enligt min uppfattning både skarpa. ;-)
