Photographer's Note

Balconies play a major role in everyday life of average Turkish citizens. During the warm and long summer season Turkish people prefer to spend most of their time in open air. That’s why without exception all of the apartment blocks have to have balconies. This scene is from one of the lower class suburbs of Ankara, namely Demetevler which is also well known as the symbol of irregular urbanization in Ankara.

I like this accumulation of balconies, I find the perspective interesting. It's also cool that the 3 buildings are not the same color blue-pink-green!

İlk gördüğümde burası kesinlikle Demetevler dedim, bu manzara için. Yanılmamışım. Bilmiyorum nasıl uygulanır; balkonların kiler,kömürlük, çamaşır asma yeri, ve halı,yorgan,çarşaf v.s çırpma yeri olarak kullanılmaması yönünde yaptırıcı önlemler yanında özendirici,eğitici çalışmalar yaparak bu rezalet ve kepazelikten bir an önce şehirlerin kurtarılması gerektiğini düşünüyorum.
Çok iyi görmüş,düşünmüş ve başarıyla uygulamışsınız.

Çok süper yakalamışın ellerine sağlık, yalnız iç içe bakan konserve kutusu gibi apartmana bi de ne işe yaradığı belli olmayan balkonlar yapan zihniyeti anlamakta güçlük çekiyorum, millet de anlamakta zorlanıyo heralde ki değişik denemeler içinde :)

i'm a big fan of "ugly" architecture, personally, i think ugly can look beautiful.
such as this one.
For sure, the building will not win any prizes of beauty, but if composed skillfully and with artistic creativity, it can - and does - look great here.
its all about repetitive forms and shapes, colors and sightlines.
you have all of that here

I can understand the need for these many balconies when people don't have the opportunity to sit out in the garden.
You have created a pleasing pattern from this urban build-up by using the repeating shapes and vertical layers of colours sympathetically.

I like this vertical composition very much. Somehow it resembles the lower middle class colonies in Delhi and suburbans of India too with all those balconies and those discs.

the flat perspective because of the long focal lens creates an image with a graphical fantastic chaos, the balconies are accumulated in the framing fusing the geometry of its elements with a great aesthetic efficiency.
