Photographer’s Note

This post is about the Kangal dog : "a contemporary national treasure in Turkey" (Wiki). The typical, traditional protective "necklace" of this one is purely "decorative" (or to impress visitors), he could not be attacked by other dogs or by wolves as he is a quiet (but huge !!!) dog guarding a house ... Those dogs are traditionally used by shepherds and can be terrifying in the wild, - some others, attached, can also be dangerous (question of diet too, maybe ?)... it all depends on how we treat them I guess... This 2 years old just wanted to play and dance with the kids !

NB : it is now getting a fashion to own a Kangal dog in some areas : the owners of this one - a very traditional family - are not interested in fashion but some rich business people have recently acquired such animals as pets for prestige ; often, they had to get rid of them because they did not know how to train them, playing with their instincts and exciting them to fight other dogs : a real terror sometimes !
