Bu denizkızı, düşlerini süsleyen cennete erişebilmek için, nice engin denizler, ufuklar aştı… Kıtalar, adalar, koylar dolaştı… Ta ki GÖKOVA’ya ulaşana kadar.”
Sözler Sadun Boro’nun, heykel Tankut Öktem’in. Sadun Boro. Okluk koyu girişindeki bu kayalığın üzerine yerleştirttiği bu heykeli, dünyanın en güzel sularına, 1993 yılında Gökova körfezine armağan etmiş.
There is a surprise to the sailors on their approach to the ‘Okluk Koyu’ or ‘English Harbor’ during their ‘Gökova Bay’ tours: A beautiful mermaid sitting on a rock in the sea. The sculpture is a gift from Sadun Boro, to his beloved Gökova Bay, sculpted by the artist Tankut Öktem, who is actually Sadun Boro’s one of friends. Sadun Boro is the first Turk who sailed around the world through the years 1965 to 1968, with his 10.5 mts sailing boat, with his dear wife Oda Boro. After many other trips and sailings for many years, this wise and interesting man now lives in Gökova Bay, and mostly in his boat.
The writing on the sculpture says: ‘This mermaid, inorder to reach to the paradise in her dreams, has travelled over a huge sea, crossed the oceans and horizons… She went through continents, islands and coves… Until she got to GÖKOVA…’

many sailors who happened to visit Leros during their trips decided to buy houses and stay there, this story sounds familiar and I know what it is to have a beloved hometown that you chose yourself. I like very much how you are presenting the symbolic sculpture of the mermaid in the characteristic sunshine and colours of this region. A very lovely coast and a wonderful inclusion of some vessels in the background. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a good night,

Merhaba Cagla. It's those rocks, pines and of course the sea that remind me of my Gokova, the town by the sea where I was born. Its real name is Biograd Na Moru (Biograd by the sea.) maybe one day you can visit it as it has a lovely marina. Slim chance that I will see it again. Beautiful sunshine in this attractive composition. Selam. Klaudio.

I never knew of the existence this mermaid although I've seen the ones in Copenhagen and Warsaw. I have been to Marmaris and Dalaman as well as Fethiye but don't recall hearing or seeing anything at all about it, although here it is, large as life! Tfs!
