The modern town of Bergama from the Acropolis of Pergamum. I found out something interesting last night about the temple of Zeus here, which used to be used for human sacrifice. It was rumoured to be the throne of Satan. From Wikipedia: "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pergamon_Altar"
This altar was removed by the Germans in 1930 and transferred to the then new Berlin Museum. Hitler came to power shortly after. Coincidence? Anyway, Pergamum was originally a Greek colony and city state. The light wasn't with me here but the composition was too good to ignore imho.

Hi, Chris, my neighbor today,
It reminds me the Roman heritage in Israel and similar architecture there. And Bergama reminds me Italy today ))
Simple but interesting view through the gate. Well seen.

You had a good idea using the arch to frame the scene. The distance between the arch and the mountains is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details and colors of the arch. Well done, have a nice day.

Hi Chris - An interesting note to accompany your shot of Pergamum. We didn't visit this particular site in Turkey but we did visit several others featured in the Book of Revelations. I remember being fascinated to walk in places that were mentioned in the Bible and to see the links in what was written and the historical reality.
I agree the light wasn't the best but you have managed to compose a good shot showing the modern city through the view provided by the old.
TFS and have a great day. Rosemary

Hi Chris - nothing very satanic about this photo - just a good view of the town beyond the arch. Good POV.

la prima cosa che colpisce è questo fantastico arco, la seconda è la profondità e l'unione delle due cose ne fa una foto di grande bellezza

amazing view and seen through this wonderful arch. Thought provoking notes to accompany this beautiful capture. The light and shadows bring out all the textures so irresistibly and the effect is mesmerising. Excellent!

Ciao e buon fine settimana

funny written note, I enjoyed it.
So did you know down all the stones? haha
funny to hear that the town in the bg is modern when this itself is so old with lots of history.
Imagine being here in person to see human sacrifices? wow!
The Throne of Sata eh? must be a first for TE! haha
great post, very unique, and even though the light may not be the best, i still enjoy it
