Photographer’s Note

The view of historical elevator among concrete apartment buildings. This shot was taken from a boat. "The Elevator", was built in 1907 to allow people to climb the elevated part of the area that is separated by the coastal strait by a steep cliff with a total of 155 stairs. It is one of the principal landmarks of Izmir. Now there is a nice restaurant-cafe in the place that the elevator reaches. The street where Elevator is situated is named Dario Moreno Street, in memory of the singer-composer who had actually bought a house for his mother in that street and had lived there during the first phases of his fame.

Beton apartmanlar arasinda asansorun goruntusu. Bu kare bir gemiden cekildi. Asansor, 1907 yilinda insanlarin dik kayanin uzerinde bulunan semte ulasmasi icin yapildi. Yapilmadan once 155 basamak merdivenle buraya ulasiliyordu. Izmir'in onemli sembollerinden birisidir. Asansorle cikilan yerde simdi guzel bir restoran-kafe bulunmaktadir. Asansorun bulundugu sokaga Dario Moreno sokagi denir. Unlu sarkici ve besteci, meshur oldugu ilk yillarda, burada annesine bir ev almis ve kendi de bu evde kalmistir.

Merhaba Tülay,

Dünyaya Izmir'i herkezden daha iyi tanitiyorsunuz. Bu asansörün bulundugunu hiç bilmiyordum (herhalde o kule gibi yer). Buna benzer bir de Lisbon'da vardir, mesur Eifel'in yaptigi.

güzel izmir tarifiyle bu apartmanları hiç bağdaştıramıyorum... asansörün güzelliğini de gölgeliyorlar üstelik... keşke tüm o bölge dario moreno sokağı gibi kalabilseydi... selamlar tülay...

İzmir'in merkezini gezme fırsatım hiç olmadı ama bu fotoğrafa bariz şekilde yansıyan çarpık kentleşme görüntüsü hayalimdeki "Güzel İzmir" imajını bir anda silip attı. Deniz kısmını elimle kapattığım zaman karşımda sıradan bir Ortadoğu kenti duruyor sanki. Yazık etmişler İzmir'e.

Yukarıda Bülent Hoca'nın bahsettiği Lizbon asansörü İzmir'dekiyle aynı işlevi görüyor. Yani aşağıdaki mahalleyle yukarıyı birbirine bağlıyor. Ama etrafını çevreleyen kent dokusu 100-200 yıl önce neyse şimdi de hemen hemen aynı. En ufak bir çarpık yapılaşma yok.

I really like this picture! It's interesting, eye-catching and beautiful!
Sharpness, exposure, depth of field and colors are excellent!
The pov was privileged and the composition, though simple, is effective and created quite nice visual results with all those buildings and theirs shapes and colors!

fotoğrafın çok güzel, renkler, netlik ve verdiğin bilgiler harika. Ama şehrimizi de ne kadar bozduğumuzu da daha iyi fark etmiş oldum. Fotoğraflar aynı zamanda belgesel özellik de taşıyabilir. sein fotoğrafların verdiğin bilgilerle bu özelliği hak ediyor.

Hi Tulay

I did not get to this area when i was in Izmir in February (I stayed with friends in Bornova). I wish I had, it looks very interesting, maybe next time.
