Photographer's Note

Construction began on the Library of Celsus in 117 AD. Built to honor Roman Senator Tiberius Julius Celsus Polemaeanus who was buried beneath the ground floor the spot of his grave was marked above with a Statue of Athena . the goddess of wisdom. The building was destroyed by an earthquake which struck in 262 AD. The facade remained however it was destroyed in another earthquake. The current facade was rebuilt in the 1960's and 1970's. The interior consisted of just one large rectangular room. The exterior contains many statues. Located in Ephesus. Selcuk, Turkey.
