Sicilyalı Balıkçı

Yüz sene sonra bugünkü dünyadan
Bir tek insan kalmadığı gün,
Sicilya sahillerinde yasayan bir balıkçı
Bir yaz sabahı ağlarını atarken denize
Her zamankinden daha geniş gökyüzüne bakıp
Benden bir mısra mırıldanacak
Şarki halinde bu dünyadan Mehmet Ali isminde bir sairin
Gelip geçtiğini bilmeksizin...

Bu güzel düşüncenin
Olmayacağından eminim
Fakat nedense bu iş
Benim pek tuhafıma gidiyor.

Sicilian Fisherman

A hundered years from now
When not a single person
Will have survived from our times,
A fisherman living on the coast of Sicily,
While casting his nets into the sea one summer morning,
Will look up into the sky which shall be wider then
And will mutter one of my lines
As if humming a song;
He will have no idea that a poet named Mehmet Ali*
Once passed through this world.

I know this dream of mine
Will never come true
But, whatever the reason,
This whole thing strikes me as very odd.
