Pamukkale is Turkish for 'Cotton Castle' and it's aptly titled, as these silica terraces cover an entire hillside. You cannot swim in them anymore due to damage to the sides by thoughtless tourists, and a whole bunch of hotels and restaurants have been removed from the upper grounds as their wastewater discharge was also damaging the silica terraces. But there are artificial swimming pools higher up the mountains where you can still swim. Go for pools 2 to 5. Number 1 has a lot of floating algae. You must remove footwear though. If not, you will hear a shrill whistle and then a demand to leave and remove your shoes!

This looks like a photograph from another planet. I love the surreal quality you've captured here, and the fact that you've absolutely filled the frame with your subject.

Bonjour, cher Chris,
Quelle image proposée à travers cette composition. J'écarquille les yeux et essaie de comprendre les différents éléments.
La composition est fort bien présentée ainsi que la note d'accompagnement.
Très bonne journée.

A fantastic landscape verging on the surreal, the sort of thing you would expect to see in a sci-fi film. I like the point of view and crop and the total exclusion of the sky, allowing us to concentrate on the detail. The light is ideal to bring out the nuances in tone and the wonderful textures. Thanks for sharing, have a great Sunday.

Pamukkale is familiar from many pictures, but I don't think I've seen such a steep place from there. Amazing as always. All light tones make this look lacking a bit of contrast but I guess that's close to reality there.

Great control on the xposure Chris; marvelous.
What an observation. You have created an outstanding shot out of a daily life scene.
Stairs of water and ice is a treat for my eyes, and I like the way you have filled the frame with 46mm focal length.
Three Cheers, Chris,

Ciao e buona domenica

Probably one of the most toured location in Turkey, Chris, a place I'd love to see.
Fine shot show the water in mild blue tone, falling over the salt-terraces, and the stalactites.
Fabulous picture, intriguing indeed.

A very nice point of view. You focused on the main subject and you make us forgetting the crowded environment.
Your note is very well written and indeed, you render very well the refreshed travertines (few years ago they were brown).
Maybe could the contrast be improved, I will propose you a WS.

The tight frame is putting the Pamukkale in evidence. The point of view is showing the détails and colours of the Cotton Castle. The re is a good contrast betweenthe colours of the picture. Have a nice day.

The famous pools of Pamukkale...they now provide water to these natural terraces by rotation and on other days kept dry. When we visited, these pools which you showed in the picture (poosibly the most photographed) were dry whereas pools towards the Northern side were filled with water...Good work!

superbe!! tout simplement magnifique
les bleus ressortent bien au milieu de tout ce blanc
un brin de vegetation pour casser la monotonie...
