This is an image of people bathing & having fun at the incredible site of the famous '' Travertine Terraces '' at Pamukkale.
In 1988 this natural wonder was declared a World Heritage Site.
The name Pamukkale is Turkish for Cotton Castle.
The city contains around 17 hot springs & travertines.
The Greco-Roman & Byzantine City of Hierapolis was built on top of the white castle & then in the mid 20th century hotels were built & have since been demolished - after considerable amount of damage was caused... on the old hotel sites artificial travertine pools were created.
People have bathed & had fun in these natural pools for thousands of years... & maybe thousands of years to come.

Hello dear Dawn,
this is a stunning picture full of dynamism, movement, fun, colours and an amazing vast view in the background. There's great geological interest too. You've made room for everything in this well handled panoramic frame, a diagonal separates the two parts of the composition in a smooth and elegant way. The sense of depth is superb and there's marvellous clarity and colour definition from the closest people to the remotest part of the view. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely week,
Kielia (24077) 2013-07-28 8:23
this is an amazing view indeed. The panorama is impressive and the composition wisely chosen.
I didn't know anything about the Travertine Terraces, so it was quite a surprise for me. And this is what TE is for!

A summer paradise, fantastic landscape, flawless photo with great depth and lighting, compliments
abmdsudi (54565) 2013-07-28 11:22
What an intriguing landscape and the geology beneath with interesting narratives. You balance the compo very well with the contrasting groups of people in the foreground add so much perspective and lead into the depth. But i am disappointed that the artificial pools down below are like bath tubs, i think with a bit of thought they could have sculptured them to blend in with the original pools and retain some of its old features. This looks a fascinating place, well shot.

Thank you so much for sharing this photo and the note that came with it. I have not been to Pamukkale recently and I am so glad to hear that the hotels have been demolished. As you said in your note, they siphoned off all the water and caused a lot of damage to the travertines. Hooray, the beast is dead! Did they also demolish all those stupid hot spring swimming pools?
emka (98810) 2013-07-28 23:19

So you visited Turkey too, and are posting about Pamukkale-Hierapolis as I am at the moment. Then we can share our feelings about the place.
Here, I like the contrast between the bustle in the pool and the vast expanses of countryside and hills in the distance.
It's a beautiful place indeed ! Pity about the spoilt travertines :-(
snunney (100062) 2013-08-03 3:11
A lively image with a very happy atmosphere to it. I like how you have composed the shot with the people enjoying themselves on one side and the rocks stretching away into the distance on the other. A pleasantly lit image with very good colours and sharpness. Have a good weekend.

Ciao bella Bambina
This is such a colourful, dynamic and well-composed shot. This place deserves its UNESCO status so much, being so unique and beautiful. It looks like it is very touristic nowadays, but it's understandable that we all want to see this phenomena. Excellent photo, absolutely luminous.
Thanks for sharing, have a beautiful weekend

very strange, or at least a strange looking place for me anyways.
with so many people it must be hard to find a spot to yourself where you can be at peace :)
but its a lovely view of the landscape from here isn't.
and you captured that well,
excellent pops of color too
enjoy your day

I've seen already many pictures of Pamukkale but never one like this. I like the general overview with the surrounding landscape, the forests and the snowcapped mountains.
I'm a little surprised of the crowd in the water. But all these people do make the picture very lively and colourful.
To me this picture is certainly very beautiful but I have to confess that Pamukkale now has become a bit less appealing to visit.
Best regards, Paul

A very cheerful image and I like all the splashes of red in the water. Pamukkale (Never been there) makes me think of Huang Long (Been there) and what an impressive place to visit. The travertine pools with calcium carbonate saturated water are unusual the world over and so beautiful. Thank you for this beautiful image and for the informative note.
PS: I have an image of Huang Long (Yellow Mountain) on Treknature.
