A scene from the famous Pamukkale (turkish : cotton castle) with two typical elements : a sarcophagus and oleander.

Hierapolis was the ancient city on top of the famous Pamukkale hot springs located in south-western Turkey near Denizli.

Hierapolis is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As the hot springs of Pamukkale were used as a spa since the 2nd century B.C., people came to soothe their ailings here. Many of them retired and died here. The large necropolis is filled with sarcophagi.

The great baths were constructed with huge stone blocks without the use of cement, and consisted of various closed or open sections linked together. There are deep niches in the inner section of the bath, library, gymnasium and other closed or open locations. The complex, which was constructed in the 2nd century, constitutes a good example of vault-type architecture. The complex is now an archaeological museum.

Hieropolis, Türkiyenin güney-batısında yer alan ünlü doğa harikası Pamukkale’nin bulunduğu noktadaki antik kent.
Hieropolis, UNESCO’nun dünya mirası listesinde yer alan bir yer. MÖ 2.YY dan beri insanlar buradaki şifalı sulardan medet ummuşlar. Pek çoğu burada emekli olmuş ve hayatını noktalamış. Antik kentin büyük nekropolü bu olayın sessiz şahitleri ile doludur.

Büyük hamamlar hiç çimento kullanılmaksızın devasa taşlardan oluşturulmuş, pekçok içiçe geçen mekandan oluşur.
İç bölümlerinde, hamam,kütüphane ve gimnasion olarak kullanılmış büyük mekanlar vardır. 2.YY da yapılmış bu kompleksler birer mimari harikadırlar. Bu mahaller günümüzde arkeoloji müzesi olarak kullanılıyor.

Guten Morgen Mesut, oder "Gemorje", wie man in meinem Dialekt hier sagt!
Dieser Platz wurde schon oft gezeigt, aber aus diesem eindrucksvollen Blickwinkel habe ich diese Sinterterrassen noch nicht gesehen. Herrlich, wie sie sich von der dunkleren Landschaft abheben - und toll, wie Du das schwierige Licht gemeistert hast Man kann sogar die Strukturen im Kalk erkennen. Ein atemberaubend schönes Foto!

Nice one Mesut, one of the most interesting shots ever I think. Have these salts or what ever they are stopped forming? How is the bush able to grow, great stuff here, great shot.

My first impression of this picture was that this is a glacier. But looking closer quite another picture was at hand. A very interesting and very special place here, and a very fine photo!

Mesut Bey, ilk olarak diyeceğim o ki uzun notlarınızı özlemişim!
Mekana gelince beyaz pamuklardan inşa edilmiş gibi duran Pamukkale'yi oldum olası merak ederdim ama son zamanlarda sürekli ne kadar bozulduğunu duyuyorum gidenlerden. Hakikaten öyle mi?
Pamukların arasından bitiveren zakkum ve oraya kondurulmuş gibi duran lahit ise ayrı bir kontrast oluvermiş; biri yaşam biri ölüm...
