Nysa is one of Karia cities within the borders of the Sultanhisar District of Aydın im western Anatolia. We obtain the most important information about the city from Strabon who lived in Nysa most of his life. Strabon told that the city consisted of two parts. At the western side of a flood bed dividing the city into two, lays a gymnasium. At the northern side lay the Byzantine ruins and a library. To the north of the library, there is a theatre that carries an importance with its embossments in the stage building. An odeon and bouleuterion are at the eastern side of the flood bed. The necropolis of the city lies on the way to Akharaka, which is a small village in the west.

Nysa antik kenti, Aydın’ın Sultanhisar ilçesine yakın bir yerleşim yeridir. Bu kentle ilgili en önemli bilgileri, yaşamının büyük bölümünü bu kentte geçiren ve antik çağın en önemli bilim adamlarından biri olan Strabon’dan öğreniyoruz. Strabon’a göre şehir iki bölümden oluşur. Geniş bir kanyonun ikiye böldüğü şehrin batı tarafında gimnasium yer alır. Kuzey tarafında ise Bizans döneminden kalınıtlar ve bir kütüphane vardır. Küyüphanenin kuzeyinde ise yamaca yapılmış büyük bir tiyatro vardır ki , en önemli yanı sahne yapısıdır. Dere yatağının doğu tarafında ise bir odeon ve buleterion yer alır. Şehrin nekropolü (mezarlığı) ise, batı tarafındaki küçük Akharaka köyü yakınlarındadır.
