Photographer’s Note

Palmyra (known among the locals as Tadmor - city's ancient Semitic name) is a 50ha area of limestone ruins and still archaeologists make new finds. Most of them are dated to the 2nd century AD.

Tadmor is called arous as-sahra' - the Bride of the Desert as it is located among the sand and is regarded as Syria's most impressive place to visit.

The ruins are not guarded so the tourists can visit them 24h a day... or night which is even more spectacular as you can stay and wait for the sunrise.
