Photographer’s Note

a photo of the magnificent ruins of Palmyra at the blue hour, the legendary antique city from Roman times. I was glad to find certain places with illuminations if not all the ruins. In the background the old fort is in view on the hills overlooking Palmyra.

The floodlit ruins look great against the dark blue sky here Izzet, and I like how you've framed the castle between the columns.
The foreground is a little dark, but there wasn't much you could do about that; the contrast with the floodlit area was too great.
I visited this amazing place in '97. I don't think they had floodlights back then; if they did they certainly weren't switched on at the time. A pity, as it really does look good lit up like that.

Great combination of colours in this! The warm yellow of the columns contrasts very well with the deep blue of the sky. I like the composition too, showing the columns at an angle and making the scene build from left to right. Well done!

Beautiful photo, Izzet - the blue-hour sky makes a fine contrasting and deep backdrop for the beautiful sight of the columns dipped into the yellow/orange illuminations. The staggered arrangement of the columns even gives a good feel of depth and perspective for this one.

I've been admiring your earlier photographs and this one is really outstanding in my opinion. As a matter of fact it is rather difficult to make a choice because they are all of a very high standard. This one has beautiful light though.
