Photographer’s Note
Following my previous posting from Apamea, this shot shows a more comprehensive view of the Cardo Maximus – the main street – in the city. Running North-South for two miles, this colonnaded street was the showpiece of Roman Apamea, built to show off the prosperity of the city. Following an earthquake in 115 AD, much of the street had to be rebuilt, and so much of the street as seen today dates from 180 AD, considerably reconstructed in the 20th century. The large column in the distance is the votive column, serving no other purpose than as a monument to the city’s power and wealth. Beyond the votive column is the northern gate to the city under which would have passed the road to Antioch, now situated in Turkey but in Roman times the seat of the provincial government of Syria.

Salut Susanna,
Bien aussi celle la, peut etre meme je la prefere a la premiere, toujours une excellente perspective mais plus d'elements architecturaux a admirer et pour la foule on est plutot loin de disneyland... Joli !
Tu skies ce WE ?
Je te souhaite un bon week end,
Jean-Yves

Hello Susanna,
bien cadré, bonne perspective, l'image est bien fermée à gauche et à droite.
En plus la lumière était bonne.
Bien vu, a+

Another good use of the columns to get a whopping perspective, Susanna. Technically well handled with a good disposition of light and pleasant color contrasts. Well titled, too - fun idea to link the 20th century term of "downtown" with this ancient sight.

Hi Susanna,
Great composition of this main street, pointing to the large column in the back. Good dephness, very well chosen POV, marvellous colours and sharpness, showing us nice details on the columns against the beautiful blue sky. The low angle of the shot enhance the perspective as well as the game of shadows on the ground. Excellent work!
TFS,
Best regards,
Ricardo

Hello Susanna, this is a delightful scene from this ancient place. The side lighting brings out the details well and gives a pleasing tone.
