Photographer’s Note

Al Samra beach is perhaps the most beautiful beach in Syria .If you take a look to the picture the part with cobble stones belongs to Syria and the sandy area is Turkey . The frontier between both countries is exactly in the middle on the right side of the photo . With certain regularity some Turkish patrols are controlling the zone and permanent watchtowers are located right behind those cliffs and mountains . There are also a lot of control and checkpoints before getting to that beach . We crossed to the Turkish side and were invited by Syrian guards to come back . The blue is really spectacular in Al Samra . There are other few safer options to have a normal bath in Syria despite the coastline is averagely extense . Many of the beaches are dirty , with residual waters with all the visual impact , ugliness and degradation it may imply . If arriving in Lattakia , the best option is to go to the Blue beach where you ´re supposed to access through the Cham and Meridien Hotels after paying above 6 euros . The choice is far expensive for only a beach but at least it is clean . Al Samra is also a nice good destination but the route is far risky and it is normal you could not have a peaceful bath in there with patrol and controls all the time ...
