[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A Malaysian imam, preaching the group of pilgrims, about the Battle of Karbala, in front of the important Shi'ite shrine, containing the head of Hussein, grandchild of the Prophet, who was martyred during the battle. This shrine is located at the far (eastern) end of the courtyard from the main entrance, and is visited by many Shi'ite pilgrims, especially from Iraq.

The Umayyad Mosque also holds a shrine which is said to contain the head of John the Baptist (Yahya), honored as a prophet by Muslims and Christians alike. The head was supposedly found during the excavations for the building of the mosque.

The tomb of Saladin stands in a small garden adjoining the north wall of the mosque.

Merhaba Deniz,

I really like this picture. It shows how a group portrait in a public space can be intimate after all. It's especially interesting for non-moslims who (I suppose) are not allowed in a mosque in Syria (not sure if this is correct).

Hello Deniz,
An interesting picture with a good focus. I like the postures and intense looks of many of the pilgrims and the view across the large mosque. You have made very good use of the light and captured the colours well. I have visited this interesting mosque but my pictures didn't turn out as well as yours.

grup malezyalı olduğu için herhalde suriyede değil de güneydoğu asyada biryerlerde çekilmiş gibi duruyor gerçekten de... suriyeli grup arkada kapkara görünmekte keza... ışıl ışıl bir kare olmuş... bu vesileyle hindistana gitsen neler çekebileceğini düşünmeye başladım bile...

I like your POV here, with this colorful and peaceful gathering inside the mosque, a place that non-muslims are rarely able to visit. I also appreciate your composition, that shows the contrast with the other group in the background. You managed the light very well. Bravo, Deniz!

Caminin buyuklugunu hakikaten birebir gosteren bir kare bu da, gruplasmis halde cok sayida insan kalabaligi mevcut ama aralarinda hala mesafe var...
Renkli cekimleri severim zaten bilirsin, ama burada Korkut'un da dedigi gibi renklerin insanlar hakkinda azicik da olsa bilgi vermesi daha da guzel olmus.
Isiltili misiltili cok guzel, tam dergi fotografi... Kuse kagida basilacak boyle... Yeme de yaninda yat...

Suriye ye gittiğine değmiş, fotoğraflar süper.
Bu ortamı çok şaşırtıcı buldum gerçekten. Kadınlar ve erkekler birlikte vaaz dinliyorlar (bizde hiç görmedim), çok iyi. Diplerine kadar gidip te fotoğraf çekmene birşey dememeleri de ikinci şaşırtıcı nokta benim için. Bir de caminin her köşesinde ayrı bir faaliyet var:)

I guess you didn’t tell them that gay Raphael plays pipes on Mykonos. What a pity. You missed the chance to add your own head to the unique head collection of the Umayyad Mosque. I can ensure you that I would come to pray at your shrine if they had your head there.

Beautiful shot which gives us a fascinating insight into that great Mosque.

Hello Deniz,
Excellent this general view of the ceremony with all the persons listening to the Iman.
I'm also amazed by the steady hands you must have to get out such a sharp shot at 1/10, but like this you could get this nice lightning and details all accross the composition.
Speaking of details, looking at the walls of this mosque is just as if we were looking at treasures hanging on the walls, so rich they look.
