Photographer’s Note

The Grand Mosque of Damascus, also known as the Ummayad Mosque (Arabic: جامع بني أمية الكبير, transl. Ğām' Banī 'Umayyah al-Kabīr), is one of the largest and oldest mosques in the world. Located in one of the holiest sites in the old city of Damascus, it is of great architectural importance.

The mosque holds a shrine which is said to contain the head of John the Baptist (Yahya), honored as a prophet by Muslims and Christians alike. The head was supposedly found during the excavations for the building of the mosque. There are also many important landmarks within the mosque for the Shī‘ah, among them is the place where the head of Husayn (the grandson of Muhammad) was kept on display by Yazīd I. There is also the tomb of Saladin, which stands in a small garden adjoining the north wall of the mosque.

belle photo de cette grande Mosquée, l' architecture intérieur est de toute beauté avec ces arche, votre POV permet d' en découvrir une grande partie.
Jolies couleurs bien fixées, bonne luminosité.

Beautiful interior of a mosque. The women in the right foreground are particularly effective, as examples of worshippers as well as focal points for the beginning of this long hallway. Nice colour, too.

Hi Knut!
Excellent composition with wonderful light and colors. The girl and lady in the lower right brings depths of field to the picture. Unfortunately the lady in white is in a dark corner of the picture. To improve an already very good picture I would suggest either cropping out the white lady or use Photoshop curves to adjust the light a bit in this dark corner.
