Photographer's Note

Harat Al-Bab, literally translated into English "The gate district", was one of most recognized and important districts in Makkah, used to contain royal residence to the old Hejaz rulers, and then the Saudi royal family when Saudi Arabia was established. It contained also several schools, mosques and wells. The district dates back to the 13th century during the Ottoman Empire (although verifying this date on such topics is very difficult due to the poor resources available, but worst case scenario; give or take a century or two lol).

Anyhow, nowadays Harat Al-Bab is a low income district, abandoned and forgotten for its glory…
