North of Jeddah, lay the village of Thowal, a small fishing village, still not developed at all, but offers the best sea-food in the country! Fishermen bring their goodies daily to the fish market for a daily auction (starts 4pm), where you experience something extraordinary!
I want you to imagine the following scene with me...
Local people gathering around a pile of different type of fish, a local auctioneer (usually from Thowal and inherited his job), starts the auction, the initial price depends on the type of fish and the fisherman's wish, and the art begin...
The auctioneer keep rising the price by SR 5/- loudly and very fast as long as bidders keeps their eye contact with him (bidders on auctioneer), once he reach SR 100/-; he continue raising the price by SR 10/-...
I was curious to know why the auctioneer is raising the prices while no one is talking or wavering with their hands?! Someone explained to me, and I then I understood when I noticed an elder man turning his face away, and the patch was sold to another bidder who kept looking at him!
I planning to go their and capture some of this action myself, and share pictures from one of those auctions soon :)
