The Archbishop of Canterbury - head of the Anglican Church is in Bethlehem at the moment to make his mark in bringing the effects of the stranglehold of the 'aparthied wall'/'security wall' (depending on which side you are on)......to the attention of the wider world. This little visual joke is for him....it's such a serious situation you have to have a laugh now and again........I like the little symbol of symbiotic unity in the middle of this image........

There are some remarkable religious thinkers and leaders amongst the 'sons' of Abraham - I wish them - the people who embody the central messages of peace and humanity all the best for the coming year and the possibility that their more untainted (and holy of holy - united)leadership might be more recognised and able in confronting military and armed militant logic.....and emotion.......in 2004 half of the suicide bombers who attacked Israel came from this small town.......unholy smoke....there is no justification for the bombing of unarmed civilians......none on earth...........the curious consequence of the wall and its economic effects means that some young Palestinians now risk their lives to breach the wall and enter Israel to work illegally......sometimes they are caught....often not......so much for the 'security' wall........designed to keep out Palestinians........

My adult students in Korea claim that "good Christians dont smoke". Hmmm... this seems to be saying something else..or maybe the devil placed that sign there?:) A very nice b/w image Kev, a very good conversion indeed.

Holy smoke, yep very appropriate again Kev. I always wonder what on earth is in the minds of these idiotic suicide bombers. I mean, it's like a last resort. Madness, and I also believe, easily led young men.
br,
mark

Well, really interesting association. Proper place to appear with cemera. Regards and merry Christmas.

Another very poignant and now ironic shot, Kev... but the story behind is of course not, far from it... a very sad and alarming fact what you are talking of. The composition reflects this situation with a Ryanesque twist that is simply brilliant. Of course the photographic merits are self-evident...
Have a wonderful Christmas Kev. Warm wishes to you and yours!
Hugs,
sasa

Witty shot, Kev. In the UK now...yes, The Archbishop is going quite a bit further than that, accusing Blair basically of compromising all Christian lives in the region because of...Iraq, and singalling out Palestine in particular where Christians are now 75% gone or something like that, and stupidly accused of being "crusaders". He has a point for sure but is that useful at this particular juncture, when Brit troops are slated to leave the Basra area soon, handing securtity over to...Oh my God, yes, the Iraqis. It pains me that Christians all over the Muslinm word are now persecuted and mowed down, churches burned, that's when the other lot are not busy geting at each other (Sunni and Shia, well documented everywhere...) WHat a mess, eh?
Israel is NOT helping, and what you say about the xcesses of occupation forces is true, I know but Palestinians have plenty of internal, messy, corrupt, ProtoJhadist problems of their own making too, have they not? They have been so badly led for so long, to be brutally frank. Great people I'm sure...
Thanks for elevating the level of discourse on TE and for this increasingly rich and fascinating series.
See ya soon,
Francis

just wondered if there is a holier and more xomplicated place in the world and nothing came to my mind...
what a shame on all of us, people (what we call ourselves), that this whole thing IS happening...
certainly not the easiest series i have seen here on te, but knowing you i may imagine how deeply in your heart all the stories you have been telling us are...
peace,
j.
