Photographer’s Note
Sohar (ولاية صحار)
Sohar was an ancient capital of Oman.
Many believe Sohar to be the birthplace of Sindbad the Sailor. It has a rich sailing history. Sohar is traditionally a fishing town and has a fish souk.
The town is close to ancient copper mines and Jebel Akhdar (the Green Mountain), the tallest mountain in Oman. It is also fairly close to the fort-towns of Ibri, Nakhl, Rustaq and Nizwa.
The landscape that dominates throughout Oman is mainly red & brown desert dunes and rugged, barren mountains which sometimes end abruptly against turquoise-blue seas.
