Photographer's Note

Geographically, the Musandam peninsula juts into the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow entry into the Persian Gulf, from the Arabian Peninsula. The Musandam peninsula is a part of Oman, separated from the rest of the country by the United Arab Emirates. Its location gives Oman partial control, shared with Iran, of the strategic strait. The Musandam Peninsula has an area of 1,800 square kilometers (695 sq mi) and a population of 28,727 people.

The rugged coastline, with its numerous fjords, resembles the glacier-carved coasts of polar regions, only this region is much browner! These dhows are the traditional way of negotiating this region and this is also the way we went about our trip through this region...with lots of little islands and dolphins abounding, this is a beautiful part of the world.
