Photographer’s Note
As I live in Kuwait for nearly a year I thought it is time to finally post a photo from here too. It was not until 2 weeks ago that I actually didn’t take a single shot of this country. Luckily my friend Daniel has made me to go out with the camera and change it. This is the most interesting thing that Kuwait has to offer – Kuwait towers. It is the most recognized symbol of this country same as Tower Eiffel in Paris or London Bridge.
The Kuwait Towers are three towers of reinforced concrete in Kuwait City. The main tower is 187 metres high and serves as a restaurant and water tower. It also has a Viewing Sphere which rises to 123 meters above sea level and completes a full round turn every 30 minutes. The second tower is 145.8 metres high and serves as a water tower. The third tower houses equipment to control the flow of electricity and illuminates the two bigger towers.
This photo was taken shortly after sunset. You can actually see few clouds on the sky which is phenomena that appears for only few days over the winter months. Otherwise we have only blue, blue, blue sky here. You might get a feeling that those towers stand in front of the swimming pool rather than on the shore. That is one of typical things here in Kuwait - the sea hardly ever moves, it is generally as calm as small pond. In short – not too much potential for dramatic photos here…
I have used tripod and ND filter to balance the light.

Dag Lucie,
I was typing on your picture from yesterday and when i was done you removed it...why? Okay it was not sharp on the eyes, was that the reason? Because depstie the sharpness i was impressed on the image itself.
Okay, let's go to this one. You say the sea is calm, well with the 22 sec it looks even more calm with a kind of silk effect to it which i very much like. The towers of course are the main attraction in the image, but also the lights at the right of them and their reflection in the water. Those so called "never appearing clouds" gave something extra in the sky and the ND was useful to put a nice gradient in that part. An image that i like, in exposure and subject, although the beach could have some more and better light on the left, but that can be done in the post-processing.
Good work you present us here...thanks.

Very beautiful Lucie. Thanks to Daniel for making you go out and shoot this one. The blue hour looks amazing through your lens. Composition is very good and so are your colors. Not much to say here. Only look and enjoy.

Hi Lucie,
a good one, you made a lot out of this potential.. what about the desert at sunrise ? The city ? The people ?
Wish you the best, and the best light :D

Hi Lucie,
Excellent shot with a large blue cover. We see a lot of golden and blue tones in medieval context, but here, it's very attractive to see these familiar colours applied to futuristic architecture.
I like how the reflection from the spotlights in the water reproduce the shape of the towers. It's the first time I read about using a ND filter to balance night light and I found it very interesting. Thanks for this insightful info!
Friendly greetings!

Hi Lucie!
Last sunday morning I`ve seen these towers from a plane ,departing from Kuwait international airport after an stopover there with Kuweit airways. The city looks very strange and interesting from above.
Great POV,wonderful blue tones and nice reflections.Much more nice than this boring airport.

Hello Lucie,
Very nice blue hour picture! I love the chromatic contrast between blue and orange! You captured great reflections in the sea surface! I wonder what it would have looked like if the water was darker than the sky! You did a great job! Thank you!

Hello Lucie,
Impressionnante architecture qui semble avoir été posée là par des extraterrestres ! La couleurs du ciel accentue encore ce coté incongru de cette construction !
Bravo !

Hi Lucie
Superb blue hour shot. The towers look like they're from outer space and I like the reflections in the smooth water. The clouds give atmosphere to the sky.

Wow again! I spent several months in Kuwait a few years back I never took any pictures either. The sky was always boring and the landscape is just flat, flat, flat. This photo is amazing. The orange light on the towers contrasts so nicely with the blue sky. The reflection is perfect too. Great composition.

Hi Lucie.
I just noticed your picture on the main page. I'm sorry not to have seen this before! This is just amazing! I really can't belive the quality of this image. There are so many things here that make this a good picture. First of all I really like the time this has been taken, the blue hour (in my mind, the best time to take pictures!). This gives a really good effect and feel to the image. I really like how the orange of the towers contrasts to the blue of the sky. Also your composition is just flawless. The way you have positioned these towers and also included the lights to the right. Also the reflections are just great. The longer exposure really makes this picture what it is. This gives really nice star light effects on the lights and also make the calm sea seem even calmer.
In my mind this is a flawless image and one that I am proud to have in my favourites!
Very well done!
Blair
