Photographers Note
This is my largest print i keep in my house..
She is a Bedouine little lady.. she was in the counter of a Jordanian souveniers stall somewhere at the top end of Petra (45 minutes of trekwalk.. its not only the "Treasury" part as people might think about Petra. Its a big place, and there are some hidden places as well :) she had no parents she told me.. probably living with her relatives.. she was running the place..Smart, but very moody and dreamy little kid. she was not interested with me as a customer at all!
:(
(i had a big inner-conflict with myself to post this one to TE or not.. because i really like this shot, and i have a kind of private relationship with it..
But i decided to do this because there is a reason behind it: When i had this slide done as a big print (60 cm to 80 cm.- Velvia) by one of the photography shops in Ankara in '94, the guy asked me if he could keep a print for himself too. I said: "for sure.."
Later on (after a year), when i was in abroad, i learned that this guy actually made lots of prints out of that, and sold them in the city with some good prices (saying that it was taken by an unknown amateur..) Well, it still pi**es me off when i think about it..
For Turkish people: if anyone knows or has seen this image, it is mine for their information, no one else's! Lol)

great portrait Evren.. first of all she is beautiful and your image is so well done.
I love the division of the space, the pole being a fundamental element .
The background is also exceptionnal colorwise..
Very nice image.

merhaba evren;
no question this pic deserves a special treatment (doesn't mean steeling the ownership and copyrights from the author, wrrrr);

Beautiful portrait Evren, I like this look a bit lost, dreaming for a better world. This post give to your composition a strong solidity. Nice framing and background.
Have a nice day.

That pole is perfectly placed and the background colours match very well, also the eyes stand out so well as the hood blends into the darkness. The hand makes this shot quite unique as its unusual yet suits this shot, i see why you put it on your wall! well done.

this is without a doubt a lovely portrait! the grimy hands and soiled sleeves of hard labor and the lost look of one who can only dream are beautifully captured. the pole is interesting because its such a solid element in an otherwise fragile scene and appears to imprison the small face. beautiful work!! TFS!! (and too bad about that lousy experience)

Merhaba Arkadesh,
Its in my opinion one of your best shots. Her hand's position and the darkeness of her hood mingling with the wall. Its like wow! Jordan is one more of those places where I want to go back because my photo skills werent so good when I went there. Perhabs youll give me some tips to arrive at the more hidden parts of Petra.
Otherwise, cant you hire the russian mafia to take care of the rogue photo processor? It may just cost you a few bottles of Raki.

hmmmm i hope it was just the cost savings that made you want to switch to digital. don't you just love the tonings and grains of a good film
what i really like about this photograph and also other film photographs is that it's not very sharp.. digital sharp photographs can really put me off actually.
the skin tone here is fabulous and the velvia is soooo visible on the steel bar running down the frame
and the bokeh!!!!
and i'm so glad she's not looking at you. that in itself makes it very personal, since she's lost in her own dreams
very nice evren
take care :)

Excellent photo! I like the timing, and also the framing - with the girl close the edge of the frame. This looks very beautiful and intersting.

Very happy to see your portrait did not get lost in the great number of additions on TE nowadays. A lot of life is coming thru these little "squirrel" eyes, she seems more vivacious than sad in her dreamingness, and the iron bar in the middle, setting her squarely in on side of the frame, is a great prop to show her in her own world, not the real one.

Quite an impressive compo and expression in her face, good DOF andthe blurred background colors adds a lot of atmosphere here, I like the story around it and I know the feeling.

Evren,
This is a top class image. I love the light and the color, the glint of her eyes that seem to smile in a quizzical way, and the relaxed posture of her hand. Great stuff!

I kind of feel like I'm getting to know you well enough to know why it's so special and it's pretty clear from what you've said anyway. That's enough to get me pretty much all the way I can get to experiencing something of your feelings for this image and making a connection with this person - this isn't so hard because my closest friend has spent so much time working with and sometimes making images of children who have been through so many things children shouldn't have to go through or witness (in Croatia, Bosnia, Kosova, Palestine) that this very immediately speaks to me perhaps at a level it also speaks to you.....actually at many levels.
I think it would be perhaps the most significant print in my house too! It would put me in touch everyday with so many things that would strengthen and remind me what I work for .....I've had a few emotional responses to images here but none as strong as with this one Evren.
Thankyou so much!

Stunning image. The beauty of the little girl contrasts so sharply with her "older" and moody look. The pole and background are great elements here.

Hi Evren - magnificent portrait, I can't take photos of people but I really am amazed at what fantastic moments others can capture. So far I leave that field of expertise to the likes of you, clodreno, Paker, keribar etc. Thanks for posting.

Hello Evren, had to look at your portfolio after your kind comments on my "Shanghai - haoppy hour" shot. This is a splendid image, and Aqaba is a place loaded with history ( you do know that Lawrence of Arabia won a major victory against the Turks there in the first World War, with his Arab guerillas...it's in the movie anyway). But here, light and shadows are superb as is your use of bokeh. As goos a s a situational portrait gets, I reckon... Thanks for that, Francis

excellent shot Evren. Beautiful mix of tones witin the background that does participate in the dreamy mood conveyed. The strange element in the picture is that the hand seems somewhat not connected to the girl, creating a strange impression. It could be the hand of somebody else....
