Well, that was before Indiana Jones by the way!.. :-)
i was a clean cut, cool guy in those days in my late twenties.. ;-)) living in Amman for couple of years.
My first passionate years with photography,, (93-94) developing my own slides at home, using Velvia or RDP all the time to indulge myself! just for my own pleasure, nothing else!..
Damn expensive film though! thankfully, developing by myself was saving some of my pennies! lol.. Anyway then i got bored with it, and lost my interest in photography for a long time until i find myself in India recently..
(so nearly 12 years.. Well this is me. ;-)
Finally i am back with my old slides now for a while.. I am out of India! it was hard a bit.. i felt like it was a bl..y duty to post a decent shot every single day! you feel like you are obliged to do that and it makes you addicted after a while, then you get stuck!!.. i am tired u know? i am an old man now.. :-))
now, ill be able to post some of my old slides from time to time in my comfortable seat without moving anywhere just like the rest of TE people here for a while thankfully.. lol
Anyway, this is Petra as probably everyone knows from the movie called "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade ". Its an old ancient and secret ruins of a civilization named "Nabatean" -not Arabic!- (until it was rediscovered in 1812) afaik..
Good thing about this shot is that i have never shown it to anyone apart from some few friends of mine.. and luckely i have not seen any similar shot so far, (since 1993!)-i mean something similar with a that kind of glorious horseman!! (PS. if anyone knows it, i would be glad to see that..)
It is just a scanning from Velvia, and was my development in the bathroom in those days..
No PP. just as it is.. an outstanding Velvia imo (my all time favourite.)
(PS. couple of days ago Fujifilm told me that Velvia
100 is released recently with a resolution rate which breaks a world-record!.. Oh,my god! that is even two times faster now.. Maybe i should throw my rubbish D70 and grab my old great F90x after all! oh, good old days!.. LOL)

Hi Evren, This is a beautiful photo, the colours are very vivid. I know it is hard place to take photos because the light is very harsh and you do have that alley going into it (I know been there in 97 when I took snapshots, and thought that was photography!) I al very curious to see what other photos you will share, hopefully you wont get lonely, because apperently its not just India thats crowded, but Indian photos as well :)

I think it is a classic view of Petra but you executed it well. I like the narrow portrait format that matches the shape of the crack. The man and the camel make the picture so much better than without them.

Amazing shot, perfect!
Are you dissatisfied with D70?
Galeota (10352) 2005-04-14 16:00
Classic composition in a dreamy scenery. You seased the opportunity to capture an out of time atmosphere. Ver good command of exposure, allowing to have details in the shadow areas as well as on the bright background, althoug there seems to be an extreme contrast between both. Good work.
devimeuxbe (58557) 2005-04-14 16:01
Very nice capture. The light is beautifull.
The composition is fantastic.
AnimeshRay (9089) 2005-04-14 17:32
This is grand! Of course this is classic Petra, but only you waited patiently for the man on horseback. A great moment. Isn't velvia grand!
mustafaa (610) 2005-04-14 19:13

Gix (3565) 2005-04-15 2:29
very impressive shot! And not only for the technical quality (gamout, sharpness...).
I like the compo, the light, the mystery of this man with a white horse...
Very nice, truly a very nice work!
...and an interesting note, too.

this picture is fantastic, the cliffs make your frame and let you wonder and discover what there is after.

A classic view of Petra! Beautiful handling of the light and clarity of the image - it is a view that always excites so many things in me - which is I guess why it is where it is.
I think I have seen a picture like this with a horseman or horsemen - sorry - but even more sorry because I can't for the life of me remember where - (I could be imagning it) but when I opened your pic I thought to myself WOW! Evren took that!! It brought back some memory - perhaps from National Geographic or a travel book or.........Oh no! I am going to spend the rest of my life looking for it.....I remember another wth a group of horse riders maybe taken a little further back...........
Anyway - all of that is beside the point - this is a stunningly beautiful photograph, completely original to the moment in which you took it - it is well taken and framed and I love it.
Looking forward to more of your slides!

Öncelikle harika not için teşekkürler. Yaptığın işe ve insanlara verdiğin önemin güzel bir göstergesi.
Well, the photo itself is very good under this harsh lighting conditions. Composition is just perfect. The contrast between objects and sharpness is outstanding. No need to mention but the horse rider is giving a wonderful taste to the scene.
Good job and thanks for sharing...

Excellent glimpse of Petra - the horseman adding interest to the shot.
keribar (43841) 2005-05-16 14:09
Petra'yı ben de gördüm, ama bu kadar etkileyici bir fotografım yok.
It's really fantastic the way these two colors match well together. The camel rider is also well placed. Excellent shot Evren - Izzet

don_narayan (2014) 2005-06-12 18:17
fantastic job!! I like that you have the man on the horse. I see so many photos of this and this one is one of the best... far better than what i took at Petra! Great job.
capthaddock (28790) 2005-06-16 9:39
Hi Evren - excellently done classic shot of Petra, I like the golden light on the Khazne and of course the inclusion of the bedouin.

This is a stunning shot. Well done! The quality of photographs on this site never ceases to amaze me.
partha (14023) 2005-11-03 21:20
Its a tremendous pic. It reminds me a pic from National Geographic. It may be a simple pic if u do not include the man riding on a horse.
anew (582) 2006-01-24 14:30
This is a great composition. The positive-negative spaces; the contrast of colors and that lone rider...Wow!! Really good.
