Nekropole at Petra

The site of Petra has been inhabited since very ancient times. Remains from the Paleolithic and the Neolithic periods have been discovered at Petra, and the biblical Edomites occupied the area about 1200 BC. Petra may be the city of Sela (which, like Petra, means "Rock") mentioned in the Old Testament, but this is not certain. Petra achieved its greatest importance under the Nabataeans, an ancient people whose original homeland was in northeastern Arabia. They migrated westward in the 6th century BC and eventually settled at Petra. Little is known about the Nabateans' history before 312 BC, when Petra was unsuccessfully attacked by Seleucid forces.

hallo achim,
super Bild mir gefällt das sehr gut
die stadt petra würd mich sowieso mal sehr reizen.
Super kontrast hier im Bild(liegt vorallem an der kleidung der frau)und das man dahinter noch ein bisschen sich petra vorstellen kann find ich auch super.

Servus Achim,
sag mal wo warst du eigentlich noch nicht. Ich war zwar schon einige Male am Golf von Accaba, aber bis rüber nach Jordanien hab ichs leider noch nicht geschafft.
Die farbnuancen hast du wunderbar eingefangen, Licht war scheinbar nicht allzu leicht. Der Farbklecks ist dann noch das Tüpfelchen.

An outstanding photo either for the most interesting subject, its graphic aestetics and the well balanced composition.
The colour and textures of the rock are so fine and the sharpness is excellent. The presence of the lady with her colourful dress makes a fine focal point which gives character and vitality to the image.

An excellent travel photo.

Great composition, combining the overall dull sandstone color with a splash of brightness in blue and red. Not your usual Petra shot.

In the title, did you mean "necropolis" - a city of the dead?

This one is Petra's unusual image, different from that we all know well. In this capture you have caught the symbolism of the life that this woman provides in the scene, in contraposition with the death represented by the necropolis in the rocks.
Excellent composition in a good framing, a great light and a beautiful natural colors.

For sure a fascinating place! A well timed captured of the woman walking along the ruins with her blue dress catching the attention. Fine exposure and sharpness allowing to see nicely the details of the rocks with its different layers(stratum).
