Photographer’s Note
Petra (rock in Greek) is an archaeological site in the Arabah, Ma'an Governorate, Jordan, lying on the slope of Mount Hor in a basin among the mountains which form the eastern flank of Arabah (Wadi Araba), the large valley running from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. It is renowned for its rock-cut architecture. Petra is also one of the new wonders of the world.
The site remained unknown to the Western world until 1812, when it was discovered by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. It was famously described as "a rose-red city half as old as time" in a Newdigate prize-winning sonnet by John William Burgon. UNESCO has described it as "one of the most precious cultural properties of man's cultural heritage." In 1985, Petra was designated a World Heritage Site.

Dear Serghei
That's another very good picture of yours. Naturally I have seen a number of pictures of the ruins of Petra, but yours is a bit different. You have been framing a detail of the ruins with four tourists, adding color spots to the otherwise reddish building. The deep shadows add to your excellent DOF and contrasts. Your colors are vivid and sharpness is great. Well done
Best regards
Urs

Hello Serghei,
Good textures in the ancient walls!
The angle of light adds life to the old stonework, that see,ms to have been carried out with great skill...
A fine colour palette, and the dots of prime colours is the spice in the scene!
Greetings,

Hello Serghei,
These spots of green and red is just what Petra needs. These persons are very well placed in front of a very interesting ruin where the shades inside the niches also create a very fine pattern. The colours are excellent and you have handled the strong light very well.
Kind regards,
Gert

Hi Serghei,
What a beautiful picture from Petra. The lighting is perfect. I really like the constrast between the sunlit ruins and the darkness on the inside of it. The tourists in colourful clothes makes it very vivid.
TFS and have a nice evening!
Cheers,
Ulf

Privet, Serghei -
Well, this is not the usual angle to a Petra shot, but so much the better for that. The uniform dun color of the carved rock is offset both by the strong light and shadow, and also by the colors of the tourists, who also serve to provide scale to the scene. You've included enough of the carvings to show the immense work that was done as well the ruined condition they've fallen into. Nice framing.
Best,
Dan

petra, what a wonderful place which i would like to visit too sometimes...
nice capture of the interesting stone wall and arches, and although
i normally would find the presence of tourists distracting,
here they add some color to the overall brownish-reddish composition.
great job & best wishes, thor.
adores

Hi Serghei!
Somehow, you got a different shot of Petra! I like the way you framed the arches and the tourists. Colours are great!
