The Location

This is a continuation of my point & shoot series from Jordan. I apologize but I have forgotten the name of the pyramidal mountain in the distance. (If anyone else knows feel free to remind me). The mountains of Wadi Rum are the home to a number of Bedouin tribes who live in goat hair tents and raise camels and goats within the narrow canyons. They increasingly are making income from the tourist industry as well. The colors of this desert environment are phenomenal during the golden hour and I'd love to join one of the Bedouin tribes in calling this my home. I could spend the rest of my life taking photos and sipping "whiskey Bedouin" - tea infused with sage, thyme, cardamom and mint.

The Image

This is a JPEG straight out of my Canon G9. For some unknown reason it had a mind of its own and would occasionally stop working in manual mode. This is one example where it didn't default to the widest aperture so I was still able to capture somewhat of a near/far image without losing DOF too terribly.

I also used a 2-stop grad on this and I've desaturated the reds -5 in PSE 5.0.

Cheers!

Bob G.

Hi Bob, beautiful image, nice composition and great light and colours. I may go to Jordan this year, is it secure to travel there being a woman? Chau chau!

Maria

Bonjour Bob,
Belle composition, caractéristique d'une zone désertique, avec sa lumière chaude et claire et ses belles couleurs dorée.
Très belle ambiance, j'aime beaucoup.
Amitiés.

This might be my favorite of your Wadi Rum photos so far. The composition is interesting and very clean. The colors and contrast are both very strong and at the same time soft. It looks beautiful.

Hi Bob,

I like the warm light.
POV going from the rocks to the wide open is very good to let us perceive the loneliness and silence of this place

Hello Bob -

This is the second one yours I have seen today and I am speechless. I am wondering what you could have done with your SLR kit. Sounds like another visit should be in the plan. Bravo! Another winner in my book.

Thank you for sharing.

Hello Bob,

Light is splendid in your photo. I like soft and same tones all over frame that makes your photo a unique, attractive one. Excellent, congratulations.

This may be your best shot yet from Wadi Rum. You have a very good combination of the close up view of the rocks and the distant view of the mountains. When you put them together the result is very beautiful. The lighting is great too, making the rocks come alive. Well done!

Hello Bob

Hello Bob,

Des couleurs à nouveau splendides. Ce décor est incroyable. Les couleurs chaudes resortent parfaitement et tu as fait un usage judicieux de ton G9 pour nous offrir cet avant plan.
Bravo !

Hello Bob!

Beautiful point of view and fantastic place!

...I return... :)

G'day Bob!
One word would describe this pic adequately - sensational! But I'll add a few more anyway! These shots are a great wrap for the G9 in the hands of a very good photographer (you!), the composition is superb, and the post-processing is spot on.
A 5-star pic, mate: top job!
Best wishes,
Jeff

Bob,
Another top quality image I'd say. Ultimately your 5d may take better quality pictures, but at TE's posting limits these differences are largely lost. I don't think this shot could really look much better.
The background forms in this light are so impressive.
Regards
Colin
