Photographer’s Note
The title of this photo is a bit of a lie, since it was taken already in 1995. I think it's appropriate today anyway.
This is from the ancient Forum of the city of Jerash in northern Jordan, about 2000 years ago an important Roman provincial city. Lots of interesting ruins remain today, making Jerash one of the most important tourist places in Jordan.
When I visited the Forum a busload of schoolgirls arrived on an excursion and some of them immediately started dancing and singing. They may have prepared themselves for this event, but they didn't perform before anyone, it seemed they were just dancing for their own pleasure.
This picture, shot in a very strong mid-day sunshine, was scanned from a slide.

Just a bit lie, but like you, I spouse that things didn’t change in just a few years of a tradition that happens in a thousand years old scenery.
Picture is full of movement, and the blue sky contrast with the usual cloudy and cold new years day of many other countries.
Best regards and happy new year to you too.

Hej Gert,
A very fine picture with this ring of girls inside the row of columns. Very strong colours, some slight noise but nothing important. An excellent combination of daily life and ruins!

Gott nytt år Gert,
The students dancing at the ancient Forum with beautiful columns in a row have been caught with a nostalgic tonality. I think this contrast is still now very attractive.
Best wishes, Hisashi

Hello Gert, Nice shot, old but very appropriate, it is a joy to see people dancing & singing especially if it is spontaneous. This would have been interesting even away from the old Roman ruin but seeing it & the column clearly in the BG I think makes it more interesting & unique. Another fine job, thank you

Hi Gert,
Joyful, spntaneous and colourful. A slice of life amongst ancient ruins which perhaps was the backdrop of similar dances centuries ago. We have not actually gone as far as we think, have we? TFS, Best,

Hello Gert
You did start this year with a dance - I am just a little late viewing it. A lively welcoming photo. The colours and sharpness are excellent. As usual a good scan. Tfs, Marlene
