After the Storm Photo

Photographer’s Note

Not 5 minutes from the center of Netanya, an attractive seaside resort in Israel, you can come across this small idilic place just off the cliffside going south.The locals call it "Ha-Shlulit" - "The Puddle".

It is a small seasonal lake that during the winter months collects some of the local rainfall and lasts until the beginning of summer.It is a good spot to watch migrating birdlife and also a place to get away from the bustle of daily life and breathe a bit of fresh air.

We had a stormy weekend and for this one I waited till the storm clouds passed so as to get the first rays of light and those beautiful deep colours.

Hi David,
This place is truly idyllic. I like leafs in foreground, they have very intensive colors. The rest of the picture is more quite, and looks adoring with those beards in the swamp. Sky is also great, as you sad, just after the storm. Well seen and captured.

Hi David,
very nice nature shot with very good colours and lighting. Because of the strong green colours and the dark clouds it looks like a tropical place after monsoon rain. The sky is a bit noisy though.

Not the kind of image that I would normally associate with Israel, so it's good to have my preconceptions confounded. It looks more like India or South East Asia.
I like the horizontal layering of the different colours of the vegetation and the trees, and the dark sky combined with the sunlit scene beneath gives the image a strong impact.
I'm a bit undecided, but I think this would have worked better without that dark tree intruding in the foreground on the right. I'd have to see a version without it to be sure though.

Hey David!
Long time since I visited your gallery - this one caught my eye. I have a good friend of mine who lives in Netanya and he goes every Saturday to shoot birds in "Dora pond" - wonder if this is it?!
Anyway, nice take here, with good wide and deep POV, getting close to the nettle to get the FG attention but also going for the middle ground (birds) and the Back at the end, with the stormy clouds continue their journey with less water...
;)
You got some noise, guess you stretched the ISO here quite a lot (f/11 @ 250mSec).

Hi David,
The results clearly made your results worthwhile. There is nothing quite like the light after a storm with the dust washed out of the air and off the plants. As you note, It gives wonderful color. The birds waitning out the storm in this secluded grassy area are a real plus. HLJ, Pat

Nice composition, with a sucession of color ribbons : green, yellow, brown, some water, green again...and finally the grey blue of the sky. I also like the birds near the water. Good sharpness too.
