This is not a cry for you to destroy the city zoo, just an expression I keep feeling, visiting a zoo, and looking into their eyes.
That's how I feel, though in some cases, living in captivity saves their lives.
What kind of life is this for them? I know I wouldn't want to live that way....

This picture says so many words. The colors and shadows set a very powerful mood. A great picture of a sad situation, your note says it all.

Wow, this is nice. Very good catch of the monkey's detail. The texture on its hand is amazing! And the picture is full of symbolism. Very good crop as well, using two vertical bars as borders on the left and right end.

ouch... strong photo and note! i know exactly what you mean... i keep thinking myself the safe everytime i go to the zoo... it's true that the Lisbon Zoo is working hard to give better and better conditions to the animals... it's 1000x better now that it was some years ago... but even so... the bars... the walls... unatural! but there's positive aspects too, they safe and treat animals, we can learn lots of stuff!

Unusual idea, congrats for posting it. The only technical doubt - the photo seems to be not sharp due to the hand movement while taking it.

very, very good, excellent realization, strong message.
The sharpness is so good !
A very powerful picture, well done !

Big impact and such a story behind this picture.

Oh wow, what a powerful shot! Just one bad point: the low DOF (or movement of the hand?) wich gives the lower part of the photograph blurred. Very cool.

Technically, the detail is flawless. Emotionally, it breaks my heart! I have a hard time visiting zoos for this reason. Your photo is emotionally provocative and great!

A very strong image of the zoo. taking one detail and making it a symbol for the sad situation at the zoo.
In the technical sense, the frame is great with great sharp details and good colors.

très belle image, pleine d'émotion!
je n'aime pas les zoos, trop triste! cette image reflète tout à fait l'ambiance qu'on peut y ressentir... l'enfermement et la tristesse...

We always look for the eyes or the face to read the expressions. Here we have no face but a hand. Yet it conveys the powerful message.
unique and powerful shot with a strong message.

I'm struck by the details in the fingernails and the whorls on the skin.

This is a touching and powerful comment on the way that we mistreat the world and its creatures. A thoughtful and profound image. Thanks.

Great shot, very sharp, excellent point of view! And what a deep subject...I am really sensirive to animals'captivity and condition, and above all I am worried about great apes'future (bonobos, gorillas, chimpanzees, ...) They are so human in their behaviour, so human in their culture and society, so human even in their genetic inheritance (they share more than 96% of their DNA with humans). A forecast drama (their survival is critically endangered and they will probably disappear within the next 50 years) which hurts almost no one...I can't finish my critique, I am almost crying!
