It's scientific name: Cinnyris Osea, and in Hebrew called "Sun-bird", "Honey-bird" or "Tzofit", a specie of the hummingbird.
This tiny bird, 10-12 cm most length, wight of 8 gr., wingspan 12-14 cm. The male looks all-black at distance but shows multi-colored iridescence, the female and juvenile are olive-green.
The beak has a shape of a funnel, used to suck flower's-nectar.
It is a swift, fast and restless bird ,and I had to gain lot of patience till I managed this photo, after some "ambushes" made for some days, near home actually.
Cropped all sides for a better composition.

Bonsoir, cher Ike,
Exercice très difficile demandant une patience d'angte. L'oiseau ainsi placé au coeur des branches et des fleurs prend une beauté toute particulière.
Résultat : une image de grande qualité.
Très bonne soirée.

I must say this is a very difficult shot, and that you solved skilfully the challenge.
A colorful image that has a high chromatic wealth, and the bird is caught clearly because of a high shutter-speed.
I love the composition and the good information about this nice bird.
ourania (25508) 2014-07-06 12:34
it seems you caught him unawares, he thinks he's well hidden in the colourful foliage:) I like very much how he stands out with his shape and colour amid the playful patterns you've filled the frame with. You took good care of the depth and the sharpness, the colours are vivid and very delightful. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great week,

The leaves and the branches are framing well the bird. The point of view is showing the details, the colors of the bird and of the flowers. The good luminosity is giving nice tints to the colors. Have a nice day.

I have to laugh, thinking of you lurking around in the bushes with camera in hand just waiting to get this shot. :) Your perseverance paid off, although a bit obstructed by the branches this is still a wonderful close-up look at nature in an organic setting. The black Honey bird stands out well against the green and red which fills the frame. This does have quite the "watcher in the woods" feel about it, a wonderful result! enjoy the new day. All the best.

Ha! Ha! Ike, the word 'ambush' conjures a picture of you waiting, hidden in the bushes, still and silent, camera in hand, what a sight! It's a good job the bird landed in front and not behind you!
It is very difficult to take a clean shot when you have so much vegetation between you and the bird, for the camera has a tendency to focus in front of the subject. Despite that, this is quite a good shot, we can see the colours clearly, the shape and the unusually long, curved beak and, the bird in situ.
Have a good day,

For a rest, the bird chose a splendid environment that gives it some airs of a king in a lavish room! Quite an attractive poster, indeed.

The dark bird stands out well against the red shapes of the flower spikes. Excellent use of a shallow dof and superb tight framing with no part of the frame wasted. Good sharpness son the bird and excellent density levels and saturation. Tfs!

It must be quite an exciting to be a bird watcher-cum shooter!! but this is certainly a fruitful effort no doubt, never seen this specie before and tx to your excellent notes. I love the rich colours in this, the detail and the pleasant exposure achieved on this interesting shy looking bird just screaming for attention and the good pose partially hidden by the branches. Its sharply in focus where it matters from the busy bird searching for his meal. The contrast of the feathers against the surrounding colours is just great and effective, I think you have done him real proud! Great shot, Congrats.

Your perseverance paid off, you got a nice photo of the elusive bird. I took some photos of Tristram's Starling at Masada, I am eventually going to upload one. I am trying not to bore my "audience" by dwelling too long on one place. Even then, it's been more than a month since we returned from Israel, I just finished day 3 today.
BTW, do you have any plans to come to the States any time?

Wonderful work and great patience, for what we read in your note of the difficult catch this bird, we see in detail here, surrounded by a stunning setting in that flowery tree that fills the entire plane.
Very good brightness and sharpness, with beautiful colors.
Well seen and done better. I like it
Have a good day.

this is one of those photos where we must enlarge it from the small gallery, can't even see the bird until now.
Personally, i've never really photographed birds before, but lately there have been more and more of them showing up on TE.
this is another attractive one, full of color.
and how can you not appreciate this creature.
thanks for this post
emka (72206) 2014-07-12 23:53
Very nice colourful photo. The bird is hidden behind the leaves bit still well visible. Nice flowers, I do not know them. It is so difficult to make pictures of the birds, I never succeed, you made it wonderfully.
I wish you calm Sunday, I am so worried.

Beuatiful sunbird in the bush wits flowers and green leaves, Love all the cheerful colors and warm atmosphere. It is not easy to shoot birds on the move all the time. It is a pleasant image with lively energy and summery feeling.
mkamionka (29153) 2014-07-15 6:00
photographing birds is a whole new area of photography. I have tried it a bit recently as the house which I rent is facing a park full of colorful birds. I have learned recently so many new names of birds and how to distinguish them, but again photographing them is quite a challenge, so I can appreciate your effort and the result. You have captured this one in a lovely environment full of flowers. It seems quite unique with the bluish head.
Very well done,
PS I have checked and it seems to be a male.
delpeoples (52261) 2014-07-16 4:41
Hi dear Ike
What a beautiful name for this lovely bird. He looks so happy amongst what looks to be Clematis? And his glossy black plumage contrasts so well against the greenery and orange/red of the foliage. Well spotted and well- shot
NorthernLight (1313) 2014-07-17 9:54
the bird is well placed in the picture. You've captured it well, as small as it is. The image itself is nice and colorful, just as I like it.
Like all animals - well let's say better, like most animals - I like birds very much. That is why I say: More of this kind of pictures!
Take care of yourself
