Previously posted older photo over the Montefiore-Windmill, which was taken in winter evening – note that its wooden-wings now replaced by plastic one's.
Built in 1857 as a flour-mill, nowadays, a known tourists location with a view over the old-walls of Jerusalem.

Hi Ike, Plastic wings :), couldn't be new wooden again? Nice view of this windmill anyway, always big attraction. I think I was there too, but when I have no photos I can't be sure.
Winter evening, haha, with all this green and flowering bougainvilleas.

A pity Ike, the wooden-wings now replaced by plastic one's, I see a wonderful Dutch mill, maybe a great attraction on Israel.
I feel me a little bit home with the lovely picture.
Nice colours and excellent presentation.
Composition and presentation are perfect.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,

Not a building I would associate with Isreal, everyday I learn of something new and wonderful on this site! A very fine capture of this fine building. The detail in the brickwork is very nicely captured, and the colors of the plant life is excellent, especially the purple flowers which really pop from the scene.
Thanks as always

was intrigued seeing this and the location. Not something I would expect to see in Jerusalem, so thanks for educating me. It looks magnificent in this setting despite the modern need for plastic sails it is still a magnificent landmark. TFS.
Enjoy the weekend - B.

The trees are framing well the windmill. The point of view is showing the details and the colors of the architecture of the windmill. The good luminosity is enhancing the colors. Have a nice day.

At first glance, the association would that of the Netherlands, but I do remember your previous picture of this windmill. An interesting fact to read that the wings actually move during high winds. I'm curious just how fast they may start spinning??
I like how you've framed this shot, the windmill works as a solid centerpiece and it was smart to include the passing tourists for a sense of scale. Looks to have been another nice day out, so why not go for a visit? :) Enjoy the weekend. Take good care.

This is an outstanding view!
Magnificent natural decorations too and I have the impression you 'trimmed' the branches at upper-right so they keep clear of the elegant historic monument!
I envey so much this piece of art museum captured by the rules book!
ourania (49935) 2014-07-05 6:58
a structure that's elegant and charming, must be a delightful surprise in this luscious urban setting. I like your composition and the space you've allowed in the foreground and around the windmill. The vegetation has become a lovely and sold frame, the inclusion of the people adds liveliness and dynamism. The sweet side light and the colours are very pleasant. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,
photoray (13981) 2014-07-05 7:18
Pleasant setting within Jerusalem, instead of the crowded modern tall buildings, a classical stone windmill in a garden setting. And from a distance I cannot identify plastic struts. A sign of modernism, since plastic should be more durable than wood, though 'purists' would prefer wood.
thanks for sharing,

Belle de nuit et belle de jour, une bonne idée de présentation qui ce complète avec celle sur le lien, très jolie présentation du moulin a vent se détachant du fond bleu et joliment encadrer de végétation

The mills are very attractive, not only in Netherland, very nice photo, good management of colors and light, great depth

la costruzione sembra quasi moderna, ottima la presenza delle persone, si vedono meglio le proporzioni.
Foto ben composta, con molto verde intorno che contrasta bene con il mulino bianco.

Nice view of this windmill.Interesting and unique place, very well composed and captured this beautiful image. Superb detailed photo
mirosu (16273) 2014-07-06 2:20
Nice view to nice windmill. I'm surprised to see that to know that the windmill is installed in Jerusalem. Without your note I'd think it is a photo from Netherlands.
The windmill is in nice light and the view is well framed by green trees. There is also nice contrast against blue sky.
Very well done.
p.s. Sorry for delayed comments, but I do not have internet access every day.

Ike, now this is a surprise...I never thought that I could see a mill in Jerusalem...I also checked your older post..a very interesting note and image!!

nikkitta (17068) 2014-07-06 12:12
Capture is well framed but plastic for wooden a real pity
Interesting a windmill in Israel at a touristic point, did you why it was built?
Anyway, well taken, composed and presented capture
macjake (71069) 2014-07-06 13:09
plastic? really? I know its probably less maintenance and it will last longer - but I wonder if that's the best option?
have we seen this view from you before, the one you mentioned over the old-walls of Jerusalem?
clear shot, excellent exposure and light.
Silvio1953 (150405) 2014-07-06 13:47

Awesome capture! I didn't know that Israel have beautiful windmills. Good lighting and sharp details. Good use of the trees as frames. Well done, tfs.

You stole my thunder! The last day we were there, we went to this windmill (as per your advice) before we discovered the railway station. I took some pictures, too, but since I am going chronologically, I haven't got there yet. No matter, I'll show the windmill from the other side.
You had a better day for photography than I did with clear blue skies. On Saturday the 31st, it was really overcast and I got white skies. Nice and sharp photo with lovely colors. From this photo, who would think that Jerusalem was in an arid land?
Kamilutka (8107) 2014-07-07 1:31
in the miniature for a moment I thought you posted some picture from Netherlands :-) Very interesting building and a little bit unexpected in this country. Nicely chosen POV, good framing and well handled colors and sharpness.
Thanks for sharing

Etonnante image à travers cette composition. Ce moulin déploie ses grandes ailes pour mieux trouver le vent.
Image précieuse et intéressante.
Très bonne journée.

After my vacation in Provence, I'm active again in the pages of TE.
With a first glance, one would place this in Holland image .... but here you have captured a very beautiful image, framing the beautiful windmill in the trees, with the clear blue sky as background, the group of people comes But to give an idea of the proportions of the building.
An image to enjoy, with its beautiful colorful, high brightness and perfect sharpness.
Excellent done. I love it.
Have a happy day.
ChrisJ (117199) 2014-07-07 11:12
For a moment I thought you'd been to Amsterdam or Holland! Good sharpness and graphism. The people add scale. I like the splash of purple vegetation. Excellent shadow detail on the windmill. The dark vegetation at right frames the scene well. Tfs!

Superb shot of the windmill from Jerusalem.Nice colors and sharpness.Excellent POV and a distinct history of its own.TFS.
danos (101882) 2014-07-08 8:50
this kind of windmill in Jerusalem? I think this is very strange for the country but reading your note is made from plastic.
Must be a very good attraction for the town.
batalay (39959) 2014-07-09 19:49
I remember wondering about the history of the old windmill, when I first visited Jerusalem in the 1970s. Thanks for providing the information, and complementing a very good photo.

delpeoples (59466) 2014-07-11 6:20
I love windmills and this is such an quaint and cute little example of one. Your composition is good, the colours are excellent, especially given the pretty strong light. The inclusion of the people give us a good sense of scale too.
abmdsudi (57168) 2014-07-12 2:51
A landmark with diff function now, even the material used for the wings look different but it's practical now and importantly it serves the purpose all right. Lovely how effective you have placed the eye catching windmill to rest the eye there with attractive natural framing, it's finely exposed to the optimum and superb colour rendition. The inclusion of the people and their positioning in the frame is just lovely. Well done shot and tx to your brief description, Congrats

Lep pogled na staru vetrenjacu, mlin ...

I remember THE windmill of Israel, near the Jaffa Gate. If I'm right, there's only one in your country.
Well framed with the trees and the branches on top fill beautifully the open space between the upper wings.
Best regards, Paul
NorthernLight (2383) 2014-07-16 10:24
this windmill is very picturesque ... though they replaced the wooden parts with plastic. A friendly, welcoming place with lots of green foliage.
Very nicely captured!
All the best

Not a building I would expect to see in Israel! You have captured this scene nicely by framing the windmill with the trees and add the people of a sense of scale. The lighting is nice as is the color and sharpness.

The Netherlands comes to Israel!
Such an iconic building!
It's a pity it doesn't work any more as that would make its interest as a tourist attraction even greater.
A very well composed shot, with the windmill the star of the show, naturally framed by the trees, with the figures adding human interest and scale.
Have a lovely day,
Periko (6122) 2015-07-02 18:01
The windmill is well framed by trees and branches, and people give an idea of its size. The image is sharp and the soft light works well.
I didn't know that there are windmills in Israel.
