Hoopoe, a photo from Tel Aviv, Tel Aviv

Photographer's Note

Hoopoe , or as named in Hebrew "Duchifat" is Israel's national bird ( as elected in 2007).
Length of the Hoopoe is about 26-30 cm, 42-46 cm wing span.
Brown body color to pale yellow. Wings and tail striped black and white, and towering head frill of feathers rising. Short legs and large wings, weight 40-70 gr.
This bird very seldom stand of trees, even the constructive Hoopoe finds low places, holes and hollows at ground level.

Hoopoe is common in Europe, Asia and Africa. In Israel's stable summer, is found mainly in the coastal plain .

I have never seen this bird before so it is refreshing to see something new on TE. It has an interesting beak and a wonderful plume on his head. Nicely done.

Hi Ike,
"Duchifat" Upupa Epops.
Polish "Dudek"
You can also find it in Poland, but it is rather rare.
I did not know that in Israel is the national bird.

very interesting the shapes of this bird, not so usual. I liked the adornments and colors of it. nice shot showing the animal with a nice light and sharpness.
