A view from Gilo quarter, at the most southern edge of Jerusalem, the closest point possible due south over Beit-Jala and part of Bethlehem town (far left side), under Palestinian-government autonomy.
The church-complex on mid-picture is the St.-Nicolas church. The Church of the Nativity can't be seen from this location.

today we are neighborhoods, you with the panoramic view of the town and me with a side of the castle.Excellent presentation with a lot of new buildings to build on the rock sides of the hills.
Excellent the light and the colour management of the scene.

I've mentioned to you before, but living in Canada, we don't get to see many views of Israel - and i think most Canadians don't really have a true sense of what the country and its cities look like. Me included.
so this is an interesting pic even for the simple learning fact alone.
I like the golden dome in the middle, just to shake it up a little bit. Nice city shot

a pleasant and fascinating looking town especially in this nice light where the contrasts are enhanced. A neat and well managed shot. My compliments!

You are doing a good job presenting Jerusalem from diferents angles, here are more modern contruction that in the previous one
St Nicolas catchs the atention with the golden shining dome
Good to leave some space for the sky at the back
Well done, buena semana
From here I cant watch the ramparts or I am wrong?
PaulVDV (20703) 2014-06-10 10:29
In spite of the fact that the whole area isn't completely built and that there are several open spaces, to me this looks a little as an urban labyrinth.
The different levels on which was built and your chosen POV give us a good overview.
Does that shining golden dome belong to the church of St.-Nicolas?
Best regards, Paul

this is a captivating view, featuring few colours and countless details. I was curious to see the wider view in the workshop, the clarity and definition you achieved in both shots are superb. There's an incessant alternation/repetition of patterns, lit and shady bits. A very interesting view because of its rarity too. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a good night,

I guess it could be called the White City when I see this pale city bathed in sunlight. All the buildings stacked one on top of another add to the seemingly sense of chaos in this city. Their geometric roofless structure give it a modern appearance, but also make this an interesting and captivating cityscape. Excellent viewpoint and fine composition.

Sensational panoramic, which shows a wide area of this ancient city, very interesting view, with the orography of the terrain, with slopes and hollows, also very varied constructions, it is certainly a focus of attention church with golden dome and other next with the red roof.
A gorgeous image with good color, high brightness and perfect sharpness.
Have a good week.
Very well done. I love it.
All the best.

I have had my understanding completely altered, here. I always believed the Bethlehem was a long way away from Jerusalem. This just shows how wrong long-held
concepts can be!
A most interesting mixture of old and new, as we enter from the bottom left, climb the hill, observing specific eye-catchers and leave via the winding road, top left. You have given us an amazing number of details in this very individual city.
My warm regards,
elenimavrandoni (14241) 2014-06-10 16:58
Ike, a very populated area...but yet there is the church-landmark that stands out and makes the difference!!
lovely tones of grey and fabulous play between light and shadows..it must have been a hot day!!!
jcpix (11622) 2014-06-10 19:58
Craig beat me to it, and made a very solid point...we don't see very many photos of Israel around these parts, so it's always a pleasure to have your perspective. Quite an urban sprawl you have contained in this frame, and the elevated position shows it in fine dimension and detail. In one regard, the buildings all look very uniform, but a closer inspection reveals subtle differences. This view and composition offers up a pleasing collection of the city below, and all under a bright sky to best showcase its presence. Enjoy the new day. All the best.
Thanks for your note today, and to answer the question...it is still very much a "no-no' to take pictures inside of a casino. I was lucky to be quick enough about it and escape without a security escort. :)

Superb shot of the of Jerusalem from high above. From the sight,it appears that the settlement was done on barren hilly terrain.Nice colors and sharpness.Excellent POV.TFS.

I visited Jerusalem in the year 1998. Now seeing this capture, within last 16 years the city is no more that what it was once upon a time. Invaded by modern appartments.
This is a nice entry of this eternal city nowadayas.
TFS and best regards

We, too, saw Bethlehem from afar, but our venue was further than this, and more to the north, I think. Nice photo showing the lay of the land, good colors and great clarity.
photoray (10469) 2014-06-12 11:45
Interesting panoramic modern Jerusalem and Bethlehem view, totally different from my Bible concepts. Instead crowded high rise buildings crowded together, though there must be historical places remaining to explore.
thanks for sharing,

From distant backdrop up to near buildings, it's an easy pleasure to look at Beit-Jala because of the excellent clair-obscur depiction that gives the impression of a stereoscopic take.

A patchwork of houses, monuments and other buildings Ike, successful image with a good light, excellent pov, have a good sunday afternoon

I never realized that Bethlehem is so close to Jerusalem. So I clicked the map and there are so many names so close to each other which I all heard for numerous reasons before. This region is so packed with history! I have to visit it some day,
jmdias (52918) 2014-07-06 14:38
a curious view of the town. I never had seen a view from this area.according with your note Bethlehem is visible here. is it that buildings in the top of the hill ahead ?
ChrisJ (94828) 2014-07-17 1:53
A superb wide angled panoramic view of Jerusalem & Bethlehem with good sharpness and lots of interesting details to view. The red rooftops contrast well against the blue sky. Also the gold domed building contrasts its architectural style against the adjacent Gothic tower at left. Tfs!
