After a 4am climb up the 'snake path' to reach the top of Masada we were rewarded by this beautiful sunset and view of the Dead Sea. We chose to catch the cable car down! I increased the contrast slightly and cropped the top and bottom of the image. (I put 'Jerusalem' as state, that was the closest option!)
Masada was the last outpost of the Jewish Zealots during the Jewish Revolt in 73 CE. The fortress was a site of the most dramatic and symbolic act in Jewish history, where 974 Men, Women and Children chose mass suicide rather than submit to Roman capture.
Today, when the recruits of the Israel Armored Corps take their oath of allegiance, they do so on Masada to remind each generation of the price their forefathers paid for their nation. They cry: "Masada shall not fall again!" (http://www.ancientsandals.com/overviews/masada.htm)

I believe it's the sunrise in the photo, not sunset, because the view is approximately East by North-East. I would crop a little less in the bottom of the photo, if possible. The Dead Sea looks very nice from this POV.
