Israeli Yom Hazikaron (Memorial Day). Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day) is an Israeli national holiday.

Every Israeli, no matter if it's in home or work, or shopping, or on the road, stops, stands up, and gives his respects to the fallen soldiers that died trying to defend the Israeli exisitence.

A loud horn breaks of all over Israel for two minutes, and all Israel lean their heads with the fallen and their families.

The remembrance day always is being followed by the next day's celebrations of Israel Independence Day, Yom Ha-Atzma'ut, the anniversary of the Proclamation of the State of Israel in 1948.

Happy Yom Ha-Atzma'ut, Gilad.
You guys - you stay cool and on the watch out there...

Don't let them bite you...

.....................

Great photo... A moment frozen in time (if only for 2 minutes).

Israel, the country of many dimensions, diversed, what you frequently and succesfully showing us.. People living there have such a strong national identity..
Would be such a scene possible in any other country ?? Italy? Czech? Bulgaria?
Those people really stopped they car on the road, get off, paid they tribute.. manifested their solidarity.. no force.. no punishment ordered them to.. Unbelievable..
Significant shot with the strong message behind..In a week time I am going to Israel.. very excited to do so.. :)
with regards, Agnieszka

Hello Gilad,

That is an amazing sight to see people standing on the highway like that. Good to remember the fallen soldiers and also remember why they have fallen and if there deaths were not entirely for nothing.
Thanks for sharing this one.

Greetings,
Dennis

your explanation to those who do not know about Yom Hazikaron is outstanding, the same as the picture.
The decision to convert it to b&w was just right for this frame

Ciao Gilad, I chose to critique this photo because of two reasons: I can't feel so patriotic in any moment of my life (all but the remembering of the anti-mafia judges, here in Italy)perhaps because I'm afraid of the a-critical consense, but I find it a beautiful sign about a Nation, to feel a unique body!
The second reason is that I find it a really beautiful photo, and a really TE shot: it says about a country and it's peopole very well with a superb tecnique!
